It's something about 90s anime that just keeps me coming back for more over the new ones. Is it nostalgia or something else?

I'm 19 years old and I love 90's anime aesthetic I think the background, the colors the animation something about it I can't stop looking at.

90s anime has a lot of soul. I'm not saying today's anime doesn't but you can really feel it in the 90s. It was a different Era.

90's anime has different vibes than the new ones.

I feel like life was slower back then for the artists to take the time to put their heart fully into it and not just meet deadlines. The heavier human element gave it more soul than a lot of the digital anime today also

No computer or AI can replicate the organic feeling of something produced by human artistic fingers and hands.

One is moving art.
The other is anime.

Definitely wish the 90s lasted longer. The digital era while animated well enough does look pretty souless. I prefer 90s artstyles and coloring. The paintings of backgrounds are always a treat to look at. Like you said, it makes you want to go there

Most of us that grew up in the early 2000s had our first exposure through anime with the 90s style. Its just so nostalgic 😢

It's the color for me. I like the grittier, darker colors of the 90s. Now everything is so damn bright and shiny lol

Old anime had a soul. It's as simple as that.

I do like for modern anime that takes advantage of imperfections, there’s Mob Psycho 100, distinctively modern, but still takes advantage of the unique roughness.

90s anime just hits different. Sure there are some modern gems here and there, but the amount of soul that went into those shows back then was great in terms of animation.

90s anime reminds me of the time when anime was "new"; when you didn't even know that anime was from Japan. Back when I was watching anime on Toonami, it felt like anything could happen in an anime. The aesthetic of 90s anime will literally take me back to my childhood and remind me of how it felt to lie down after coming back from school on a hot summers day, fan blowing air on you as Goku and Vegeta pose on top of mountain cliffs. Then you think about what your mom is cooking in the evening and what you'll do with your friends in school the next day. It reminds me of a perfect day.

saomething about the 90s anime makes it so aestheticly pleasing

It's like the priorities changed; the 90s ones seem slower but have more detailed frames (bit of a tighter scope to boot), while the modern ones are faster but make more compromises visually.

i think part of the reason it feels like 90's anime has more soul (at least to me) is everything was done in the real world with intent and purpose by the animators. Real paint on real animation cells. Real light shining through each cell as a photo is taken for each frame. Nothing is simulated, there's an organic, living component of it that's not present in today's nearly all digital landscape.

You're Under Arrest and Tenchi Muyo! were not bad anime, you should have hunted down some actual bad anime clips for that bit :) There was an artistry to 80's and 90's anime that makes it special.

@shivamarya5225 2 years ago

They didn't crunch so much back in the day. Modern animators can also do attention to detail but they just don't have the time to add that shadow detail or different clothing

I prefer the 90's anime look in general. I feel the same way about a lot of animation. Just that in general hand drawn has more soul and is just more interesting to look at.
