In those days, it wasn't polite to play to win. One ~hoped~ to win but played in such a fashion that generally indicated defeat in increasingly cinematic and hilarious ways. Fully adore these animated battle reports!

Me when
Me when my commander punches the truck so hard it falls over our heads.

Despite not even being alive for oldhammer editions. It's a weird faux nostalgia and fascination with the old aesthetic and janky mechanics. Love the content.

Not going to lie  hearing that there was a time where GW subbed their own minis put a smile on my face. Great video

Those oldhammer Sanctioned Psyker models lol fuck me. Imagine going into battle against the horrors of 40K and next to you is some guy who looks like he just finished his magic show in Las Vegas.

This was my favourite battle report at the time.

This really did let us relive it.

when there was a HUGE difference between the number of models in an Ork and Space Marine army.  100 Gretchin cost the same as a devastator sqaud if recall correctly.

This was the edition I cut my teeth on when I was 12, didn't paint, didn't have money, and I loved every moment of it. I really appreciate the content, it is a powerful time capsule for me.

I miss those old battle reports in White Dwarf.

When that vehicle flipped in the air and crushed those models, I IMMEDIATELY wanted to play some Oldhammer. 💖 Thanks for the report!

The wacky appearance of the Razorback had to do with its original roots - it started off as a Modeling Workshop customized Rhino, and the awkward looking turret was composed primarily from the front hatch cover of the Rhino kit with some plastic weapons attached to the front and some hatches put on the sides.

I love that they had sub optimal lists and tactics, forgot to do stuff and proxied units because they hadn’t painted enough yet. It’s all so small scale and human. Great battle report. Love the flat colours and basic shapes everywhere. I started in 3rd but there was a lot of this stuff still around to feel nostalgic about it nonetheless. 🎉

As someone who didn't have the money or community to actually play Warhammer back in the 90s, but read a lot of books, White Dwarf, and online battle reports from that time period, this is an awesome bit of nostalgia. Hope to see more of them in the future!

This was the first white dwarf I ever bought (I was 13), and it propelled me into the hobby almost entirely because of this battle report. Something about the each figure being shown by a round symbol and the vivid colours. 40k just isn’t as fun these days. I still have my ultramarine and Ork armies based almost exactly on the rosters from this bat rep. And i still have this well read copy of WD. Amazing nostalgia. Thank you for making this.

“Looked like someone tipped a bag of liquorice allsorts into an ashtray full of Bombay mix..”

Lmao, such a vivid picture.

I use razorbacks with those turrents for my epic 40k army, there cool AF.

The perfect ending to a classic battle report.

Always nice to see the boys in green take home a victory. A rare treat!

A big thing to remember when looking back at those battle reports is that it would have been really hard to concentrate on a strategy with all the disruptions to regular gaming for people to take photos and that sort of thing.  Tactical errors would happen really easily when you have a 30 minute break for photos between phases.

I miss this style of battle report so so much
