I'm 74 now and I'm the oldest of 6.
There was NO bribery to make us kids do what we were told, also no spanking or threats.
My siblings and I were given chores according to our age, we were NOT asked, we were TOLD, period!!!!!
Candy was a treat, not a payoff.
We applied this philosophy with our kids and grandkids, and it worked.
I won't say there were some minor conflicts between us kids but, there were resolved without yelling, under the close supervision of our parents.
I can't imagine what's going to happen when these kids become teenagers.
