A person might contemplate death hundreds of times throughout their life. But how does life look from the perspective of someone who faces death every day?

In this episode of Yer6 Film, we confronted Fatih Turgut, a mortician and hafiz (one who has memorized the Quran) working in Sivas, at a cemetery.

Having served in funeral services for 8 years, Fatih Hoca recounted moments that remain in his memory, from the first corpse he washed to the children he can't forget, from the scenes he witnessed during the earthquake to the corpses found days later.

He describes the moment when the deceased's eyes suddenly opened while he was washing a corpse:

“Suddenly, the corpse's eyes opened, and they were completely focused on me.”

This interview doesn't just talk about the profession of mortician.

It speaks of lives left unfinished, plans postponed, words left unsaid, and the death that every person will inevitably face one day.

Because, as Fatih Hoca says:

“Something always remains unfinished… Death has no time, death has no age.”

The prayer and funeral announcement read at the end of the interview were perhaps one of the most meaningful moments of this episode.

“It’s unknown for whom this funeral prayer was recited today. Perhaps for me, perhaps for you, perhaps for someone else watching this video…”

In this episode of Yer6 Film, we spoke not to frighten with death, but to remind us of life.

We recommend watching this special Yer6 Film episode, moderated and directed by Muhammed Bahçecik, to the end.
