This case, which remained unresolved for years, took a completely different turn in 2025 when Umutcan and Melisa Şimşek died in their home. As a result of the investigation, Hüseyin Sönmez was found guilty of the two siblings' deaths and sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. However, the biggest question mark in the family's history was the fate of their father, Uğur Şimşek.
Approximately six years later, DNA analysis revealed that unidentified human remains found in the rural area of Haymana in 2021 allegedly belonged to Uğur Şimşek. Following this development, the case was reopened; how and where Uğur Şimşek died, how his remains reached Haymana, and who played a role in the incident were investigated again.
