As soon as I heard the words “X-Tonic star” and “diamonds” I instantly knew this was a return to Midnight.

The first time the Doctor met this thing, it near-effortlessly defeated him and almost killed him, and it would have if not for the sacrifice of the Hostess.

Literally the only reason this episode was not a repeat of last time was because the entity jumped to a host that could not hear it.

5:58 It knows The Doctor’s name, probably from getting into his mind in their last encounter.

One detail in this episode that really unsettles me is how everyone who gets killed by the entity screams before they're even flung. For that brief moment before they're killed, they see the entity in its full form. And even though we don't see what they do, we know that whatever it is, it's so horrifying that even people as seasoned as them can only stare and scream. Even when the Doctor tries to get a glimpse at it near the end of the episode, he just runs away before he has a chance to see it properly. I love how lovecraftian the midnight entity is and we definitely need to see more cosmic horror elements like this in the show.

"It was called Midnight"

The scariest four words in Dr Who! :O

0:56 The reveal of the planet's old name was a real shocker. Not just the Doctor's reaction and the flashbacks, but also hearing the music making its reprise (after more than a decade). 😱

Good on boss lady for making the command though, that fool was going to kill everyone if he kept circling her

You’ve gotta wonder what other things it must’ve been whispering to the Doctor to evoke that reaction out of him after we already see him shed a tear reacting to it knowing his name

"it knows my name"

I dont even think the daleks have scared the doctor like that

Casio literally caused his 3 teammates died by his stubborness and stupidity that can be avoided   resonable for the commander to takes over his text machine and tells alice to turn around and let the midnight entity killed him   otherwise everyone will die by him for next few minutes

Imagine if this came out a few months later, Midnight becoming Planet 6767 would've faced an ONSLAUGHT of 67 memes. It doesn't help that memetics happens to mean the repetition of something... which is exactly what the Entity does in its first appearance.

I love how they managed to do a sequel to the 2008 episode Midnight without ruining Midnight itself. This episode isn’t trying to copy Midnight and manages to stand in its own right. The Well is still a scary episode even though it’s probably not as intense as Midnight where it was a Lord Of The Flies situation last time. It’s the same creature but this time instead of repeating people’s words they give it something different to do to terrify people. It liked to play games and it played a different game to the one before. Last time it copied people and now this time it played hide n’ seek. It adapted. It evolved. It learned. They still maintain the mystery of the creature. We still don’t know what it is. It still manages to cause a certain degree hysteria and mistrust even if it’s not the same level as before. Casio is distrustful of Alice because of the thing behind her back and he briefly commits a mutiny against Shaya which then leads to the other troopers getting killed by the entity. He gets “out of control” just like the passengers from the episode Midnight did. Shaya sacrificed herself (even though we now know that it was all in vain) to stop the creature just like The Hostess did to save the Doctor’s life. The midnight entity exploits and weaponises people’s fear and paranoia. It played a game.

I love the detail of her saying, “the entire surface is made of diamonds” to help trigger the memory to that particular episode!!!

Ncuti's best Doctor Who performance is when he speaks to the entity. Doctor Who has a bad habit of telling us what the Doctor is feeling without showing it, however here we know exactly what the Doctor's feeling from facial expressions alone and only a single sentence is said. The kind of thing Doctor Who needs more of.

Imma say something bold - Dr. Who has NEVER been truly Lovecraftian ... UNTIL we got the Midnight Entity. The specifics being unknowability - you not knowing anything is what makes cosmic horror so truly debilitating (which Ncuti made an amazing performance of reaction to that kind of unknowable thing), that inability to understand and the cataclysmic clattering in your head to figure out what's going on, THAT is true cosmic horror.

That "What" at 0:37 felt very David Tennant. Almost like 10 was screaming inside of him.

Even knowing the reveal beforehand, hearing the words "It was called Midnight" gave me all the chills.
Plus seeing the Doctor's reaction to the Entity whispering, not knowing exactly what it told him to cause such a reaction, best episode since Wild Blue Yonder IMO 🔥

Entity from Midnight was the only "being" EVER Doctor didn't know literally anything about, so the most mysterious and probably only one that scared the Doctor in all his reincarnations..

The Doctor, a man who embodies mystery itself and is known to almost always defeat any foe placed before him. Yet in a single moment, a man so vast as he suddenly found himself humbled by something far more mysterious and made him for the first time in an eternity utterly helpless and out of his depth.

The scariest thing in the universe is someone/thing that can’t be reasoned with. This monster is the perfect example. Every other monster The Doctor has faced was reasonable to a certain degree, even the Angels. Not this thing.
