Even her mother is homeless how the hell do you expect this woman to have a chance. God bless her for trying as hard as she can.

She was basically homeless all her life and they want her to quit drugs in only 6 months. I can't even quit eating chips.

She looks so different after 11 days of being able to sleep and have peace of mind. I don’t take that for granted.

It seems like the only time she gets housing and an opportunity to actually start a new life is when she is pregnant and when she has the babies, the support dries up after they are born and the expectations put on a single woman completely alone with no coping skills, postpartum , and a baby is too overwhelming.

As a social worker myself I really appreciated that they highlighted the social workers and how she cried on her way home “so many people that need help and so little resources ” at the end of the day they still show up and fight the good fight.

She needs so much more than just housing.

“Im lonely”
“I have no one to talk to”
“Im not going to forget the people in the tents like everyone else does. “
“I miss my friends.”
“My biggest fear is failing.”

She needs a community of friends, a job that helps those like her and/or a job within the industry of her talents. (Something creative, exciting yet structured. )

She’s needs a creative outlet and hobbies.

She wants to be needed and accepted . She wants people to talk to as friends and family. She wants to be for others what she needs someone to be to her.

She wants to be free AND ok.

Oh man Makenzie if you ever read this. Thank you so much for sharing your life with the world. From one mother in recovery to another. You are such a beautiful soul ❤

This was my story too..... Only I was on the streets of San Diego and I made out. I will be 3 years clean and sober March 7 and my son will be 2 in january. Also I work for a recovery program. Thank god for delivering us!

"I loved who he coulda been, & i can't change him...i no longer want to " I felt that deep in my soul about my twins father

It made me cry that not only she lost her child, she also lost Eddie.
I hope that she’s happy wherever she is.

Prayers for all the homeless and especially for the pregnant ones today

"You can't help a person the way you find fit you have to help a person the way that they need."

The amount of times she called her mom touched my heart. Each time something exciting happened, she called her mom. I guess we all want our moms deep down.

(I'm almost halfway thru the video.)

I was heavily in addiction and homeless and got pregnant with my son,  ill have 3 years clean in April! That little boy saved my life.  This girl McKenzie has so much going for her i pray for peace and happiness for her and her baby ❤

I’m 5 months pregnant, with a roof over my head, money in my bank account, a nice wedding ring on my hand and a wonderful husband … and it’s STILL hard… but wow this video put things in perspective… a sign to be grateful and thankful for what I have. What a fighting spirit. I pray she can find stability.

I feel for her. I was homeless and addicted to heroin when I found out I was pregnant. I walked into the hospital and asked them to help me. I got put on MAT and my daughter was born healthy and suffered no withdrawals. I did relapse when she was one and a half, and then my mom took her, thank god. She’s 11 now and I’ve had her back in my custody since she was 5. It can be done, but damn, it’s so hard.

I was 13 when my father started feeding me crack and heroin. And was 21 when I spent 4 years on streets of Chicago. I was 30 when I started suboxone maintenence..im 42 now with a 6 yo boy, only living family I have now. Mckenzie's story hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. I cried for her beautiful,  fighting spirit. I cried for the scared child within myself that grew into a broken adult. I cried for our children. I hope she makes it. Heal, baby girl. Never forget that your worst day sober is better than your best day high.

once she started going back too the tents and started feeling bored, I knew she was using again. She said because she didnt want too give up on them but you cannot go back there and expect not to be triggered. The novelty of having a baby wore off. they should have also dedicated the film to eddie at the end. he appeared more then leslies mom but she got a dedication

This isn't just the reality for addicts... most of us are one bad event away from homelessness. My mom has been working for her entire life since she was 12 (now 66) and because everything is so expensive she doesn't even get enough from S.S. to pay all of her bills. Her savings is completely depleted and she has always been very good with her money. It breaks my heart and is just the reality in the world today for many of us. Prices continue to go up and nobody can afford to live anymore.

I wonder how she’s doing now in 2026
