I would not call this a pass. High trans temps and serious power derating is not acceptable.

The Toyota has leather seats, while the Lexus has “vegan” leather seats. I’m not sure testing a 6000 pound capacity vehicle against a 9000 pound capacity vehicle towing 5800 pounds is a fair comparison, but I’m glad they both made it. I tow with my dually, and use an LC as a daily driver, but if I needed to tow with my daily, I’d switch to the GX.

That rear seat shake is insane!! The gap between the two rear seats also seems to be larger than usual.

They just slowly derate as the temperatures increase. That way they can reduce the cooling capacity to save money, and never have a car that overheats under load.

I would like to see the Grenadier give the Tow-ster a try next time you guys get one to test. If you already have let me know so I can go find the video.

Transmission Fluid Temperature Chart

Temperature (°F / °C) Condition What It Means Effects on ATF / Transmission Recommended Action

80–100°F (27–38°C) Cold ATF is thick and not fully circulated Slightly sluggish shifts Warm up gently; avoid hard acceleration

100–175°F (38–79°C) Normal Optimal operating temperature range Maximum lubrication and efficiency Normal driving

175–200°F (79–93°C) Elevated Common during towing or hills ATF begins mild oxidation Monitor temp if towing; consider external cooler

200–220°F (93–104°C) Hot Higher-than-ideal temp ATF breakdown accelerates Reduce load; stop to cool if needed

220–240°F (104–116°C) Very Hot ATF is losing viscosity Transmission wear increases rapidly Stop driving; allow cooling

240–260°F (116–127°C) Overheating Damaging range Clutch plates glaze; seals harden Service may be required soon

260–280°F (127–138°C) Severe Overheat Failure imminent ATF burns; transmission may slip Tow vehicle; do not continue driving

300°F (149°C+) Critical Catastrophic heat level Transmission likely to fail Transmission rebuild often required

That Wolfbox is pretty impressive.

Kase looks like he's prepping for a mohawk in the future

The rattling on the LC over the washboard is the spare tire wrenches that are stowed behind the rear seat. If they are not tightened down they rattle.

That's a hell of a test, nice work guys great video!

"Well the car didn't burst into flames and explode killing us , so that's a pass" 😆

I can’t keep track of which trailer hitch TFL “likes best” lmao first it was weigh safe then all of a sudden it was Gen Y and now weigh safe is the “best” now. 😂

the toaster is 100% a more important test than the ike. everyone engineers to beat the test of high load high weight high speed. but that's not how you're going to be doing things a lot of the time. i live in Texas so stop and go 100-120 is far more likely than having to deal with a grade. it's the hill country so we still have some elevation but it's not for miles and miles.

@austinbettencourt13 4 hours ago

Stop making it easier for the vehicle by using 4 low. The average consumer doesn’t know that, so it almost invalidates the test. A straight through run is the real test. Love the videos though, this is a much better test than the Ike. F-250 next!

@fozzir 12 hours ago

It is sad that the LC didn't blow away the GX in this test. The GX is a luxury mobile while the LC is supposed to be a tough utility SUV.

@DBravo29er 16 hours ago

Neither has an actual transmission cooler. They have a heat exchange loop inside one of the radiator end caps. I installed a Hayden 698 cooler on my GX460 with the Aisin 6 speed and it was a RADICAL improvement in ATF cooling. These new vehicles need it more than mine. Full stop.

Thank God I went with Gx 🏆

I'd like see a Jeep Wrangler do that! 😊

Toyota should have really integrated the wiring harness into the bumper, and lowered the chain hook ups, especially when the hitch is so much further out. That issue you're having with the Land Cruiser's connector getting squashed, that's why Toyota should move it, otherwise, why bother with towing.
