My Gun cleaning process involved dropping it into a 55-gallon drum cut in half, filled with solvent. I wipe it down, spray some WD-40 on it, wipe it all off, and then apply some gun oil, wiping it off again, but that was as a Grunt and 40 years ago.

That was one shotgun that I never understood the design purpose of besides shooting trap and skeet. Someone out there must have desired the shotgun but not this fellow.

I would suggest that WD40 was the original CLP. It certainly seems to clean. I believe its original purpose was to protect. So, that leaves the controversial lubricate. I’m not going to argue there aren’t better lubricants, but to say it has no lubricant ability appears to be a misstatement. When I go on a hunting trip, WD40 is the only thing I pack. I may use something different when I get home, but WD40 works. I’m glad to see others are not on the bandwagon to blackball WD40 from the gun world.

WD-40 is no goo dfor actions, parts that need to move and store the gun? Nope. no good, will tighten up and get gummy.

As much as I "Love Respect" and Understand your WORKS!  at a retired journeyman of almost every trade from millwright to electrician, I am on the LOVE the WD with all my Heart and KOIL!      WD is my go to even to clean my hands safely, I would use WD Cologne or heavy cutting oil.

I dose every modern arm with it before and after going into my safe. My AMP loaders get a DIY cosmoline with Vaseline as about a 15% 20% some bio deisel too to seal the steel while hot from lo temp oven drying after cleanings and maybe WD after a while or first.

MN you missed the main purpose of that gun. Upland game in the bush where it swings very fast onto flushed grouse and you can carry it without needing a chiropractor.

I grew up on Hoppes and WD-40.  It's the Chef's recipe.

WD stands for water dispersant, and was developed to protect ICBMs in side their silos against rust from condensates. Formula 40 was found to be the best at this job. Not a lubricant in any way though.

That's probably the first thing I do with any blued firearm when I get it, break out some oil and 0000 steel wool.

That's a grouse gun: walk all day shoot less then 10 shots. But boy, does weight of the shotgun add up after mile 4. And two shots seems fair when all your friends are toting double barrels.

WD-40 , according to it's  MSDS, is 50 percent mineral spirits, 9 percent mineral oil. The rest is propelent.
