What disappointed everyone was that we were expecting a dark, mysterious vibe like the pilot, but when the actual trailer came, it turned out to be more comedic, which really bothered me/everyone. And they’re vampires… why were the kiss scenes so tame? The plot was a mess.

Thank god I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t get through revamp so many  fans hyped  it up and it was super disappointing that I  fr felt bad  for the actors and everybody

I think revamp was a very middle of the road bl. Nothing special but not atrocious. And sometimes that's all you need

I didnt take this series seriously when I saw the zips on the boots of a vampire stuck in a painting for over 100 years. I still have some hope that a Thai production team will make a good vampire bl series.

I didn’t see the campier preview, but, based on the title, I was expecting this to be a light, campy effort. However, as each episode came out, it felt like Boun was the only one who knew that. The tone was inconsistent through the whole series, and that made the story more difficult to follow and to connect to.

I do have to thank p'new for casting mark as methas bc just his character was enough to get me to tune in every week. imo people expected too much from the show, I think it will go down in history as forgettable and something not of note.
currently there's so much drama with h2h due to the fact that they put it on air with only 10 q filmed, making keen work while he had tendonitis when he was advised to rest AND while he was preparing to debut in CLO'VER. The fact that they halted production for TWO MONTHS and blamed it on sea getting a haircut (imo it's bc he needed to finish revamp) which then put him ridiculously behind schedule for h2h AND THEN while still filming h2h my romance scammer started filming.

19:30 "Imagine youre tasked with assassinating someone, but you fall in love with them instead."

Don't have to imagine that. Japan gave us that exact series in 2025. The title was pretty self-explanatory.  My Journey to Killing you.

I enjoyed Revamp up until the last episode but agree with most of your critiques. It deeply troubled me how Punn abandoned his brother. (The family dynamics portrayed in BLs is something I'd love to see analyzed and contextualized b/c there are so many parents who live away from their minor children, etc.) That aspect almost destroyed the series for me.  New's good at portraying friendship and I generally like his series. I too wish he'd give himself peace and avoid social media.

That intro was so poetic. Loved it 😆

I like others had really high hopes, did they meet them, no. I still really enjoyed the series but for all the reasons you stated it was not what we expected after the first trailer. I wish they would have taken the time to do it justice.
New's directing style has a place, not everyone wants a heavy themed, heavy spice show I just wish they would stop putting him on projects that don't play to his strengths.

You putting Between Us and Even Sun in the same category is lowkey validating for me, so thank you for your sacrifice o7

Look I'll be honest after waiting for so long for this show I was so happy we finally got it, but I can't deny my expectations plummeted when they made the change to GMMTV, I just don't trust that company. That being said I did like the most of the show, obviously my love for BounPrem is a huge part of that but I also enjoyed the other characters, especially Barcode and Mark's. As for the whole New controversy, I understand where the criticism comes from and I wish he would just not respond to it anymore, I think he is an ok director cause I do love a lot of the shows he's done. But fighting with the fans online is not gonna end well.

It was poor, bounprem (who were so good at tormented need for each other in between us) given a series where they were literally meant to be a destined paring on opposite sides, showed no passion or longing between them., nstead they were like comic relief side characters with all the  desire of a couple of wet fish. The other three vampires stories overshadowed them totaly. I was more invested in mekin and pok's budding relationship, and kind of wanted to see that evolve into full fleged romance they try to hide from prem due to poks age. As for bounprem going back into the painting to be together forever, leaving the brother he so desperately wanted to care for behind with the vague promise of visiting, so what were the vampires supposed to take care of him now instead? On the whole

I really enjoyed most of Revamp. I liked the score and locations (the hotel was my least favorite and I think it became a significant negative for tone setting)
But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show that is such a passion project. I don’t think it was meant for everyone.

The characters were as close to real life Boun and Prem’s personalities as I think they’ll ever play - and they’ve played characters literally under their own names multiple times.
When asked about the differences between him and Ramil, the main thing Boun came up with was that Ramil’s speech was old fashioned. And your point about having trouble understanding Punn - yeah, that’s Prem. He’s introverted to the point of almost anti-social and in comparing him to Punn, they talked about how even Boun sometimes is like “why?” to something Prem is doing. Pokpong was literally added because of how Prem prioritizes his siblings. And Boun’s joked more than once that Prem has the same expression no matter what he’s feeling.

And so many of Ramil and Punn’s interactions seemed to basically be made up of real life Bounprem moments or references. I mean, the broccolis, the paos, the trying new foods, the heart, the dancing, the teeth brushing - it was endless and I haven’t even mentioned the parallels to their other shows. Part of me is honestly surprised their pets weren’t in it, it was that much.

It was so obviously a longtime passion project between 3 close friends that had been worked on for too long, with too many redos.

Prem has worked with New on at least 5 shows. I think just logically, remaining objective after that amount of work is…not likely.
The three of them are close. And I think that showed itself and it doesn’t necessarily work with an audience who has no idea of that relationship. What I really don’t know is if they were aware of that.

And there’s just obvious stuff like it started airing before they finished it, that both Boun and Prem were working on multiple roles at the same time - I think Boun was working on three different shows at the same time. That’s crazy.

And Prem’s hair! He acts so much with his eyes and this character is literally the most physically non-expressive but they have his hair covering his eyes for so many scenes. Frustrating.

The confusion at the campiness drove me a little insane though because seriously, does no one remember the very first marketing for it and “My Broccoli”? That was always there, and it was always gonna be New so things like sound effects etc were a guarantee from the start.

And the “Prem was bored” commentary I’ve seen is disheartening because listening to him talk about how much effort he actually put in to show Punn’s introverted stoicism - flat character criticism I understand, but the personal on Prem not bothering when reality is the dude changed his pitch and tone for the literally the whole show… I am obviously biased but still.

I think Revamp was a very unique project that holds value for a lot of discussion… Director and actor relationships affecting the story, passion projects and can they be objective, should shows and characters reflect actor personalities that much, fandom community hating under the guise of defending actors… (the “poor Boun” and “poor Barcode” as though they had no idea what they worked on)
I appreciated your take though. Really.

As for the dreams - it’s a classic time travel loop. In this scenario, time travel via a life of memories.

For Ramil, no, he had no previous memories of Punn before Punn released the painting. Ramil’s confusion/non-reaction at Punn dreaming about him is real. As far as Ramil is concerned, he had just met Punn like days or weeks or whatever it is before. No previous lives, no chose him through the painting, no sending dreams through the painting. Just a deliberately created self-fulfilling memory loop - created after they’re already together.

Punn is the one who realizes that the dreams he has are memories, but that by their present relationship, Ramil hadn’t actually created those memories yet and that he still needs to.

Ramil being distracted in Punn’s mind and going through the memories is because it’s all a first for him, learning about Punn and his life, and simply seeing a hurt Punn that he wants to help.

Ramil is, when it comes down to it, an incredibly simple character. He’s privileged. And shows his heart and emotions as they are (mostly because he’s privileged) and pretty much acts on how he feels in the moment. As a character, he (and Ciar) very much display the vampire ID theory, though Ramil’s positive to Ciar’s negative.

This series had me both loving and hating the whole project. It was deeply flawed but the cast was so good; I was excited to see how the cast would pull this off. The plot was disappointing and was occasionally hard to connect with but had enough parts that made me want to continue to see how it ends, which brings me to the ending which made no sense to me! Leaving to live in the painting after all the effort to keep the brother with him is stupid. I think a lot of the reasoning was left unexplained and that really annoyed me.
Personally, I would've preferred to wait longer and get a more cohesive plot than the version we got.

I didn't watch Revamp but I watched A boss and a babe...all the episodes. I felt like the script had an identity crisis. It jumped from very serious topics like SA, self deletion and mental health to comedy without knowing how to balance the topics well or transition between them well. It introduced various important issues and didn't resolve them. They tacked on a happy ending with no resolution. Initially I thought they would address the issue of the power imbalance of a superior dating a subordinate or even an age gap relationship but that was just swept under a rug with 'and they lived happily ever after'.

It reminded me of a quirky comedic version of Bed Friends. Bed Friends interchanged between serious topics and passion instead of comedy. I also felt they didn't properly resolve the issues they introduced. It's a common trope for bls to use romance to resolve trauma.

New is quite good when he stays in his cute, fluffy, YA lane. I mean, given how many producers continue to hire him, someone must like him, right? But I've never forgiven him for the mess he made out of Between Us, and ReVamp was another victim. I won't refuse to warch his shows, but I will lower my expectations for anything with a mature adult plot.

Ngl I cried after watching the new trailer cuz I was so upset that they changed it from mysterious to a comedic series. Idk why but I cried for a few days after that nd I didn't watch the episodes until like the 5th one came out. I was waiting so long for Revamp to come out due to the original pilot so I kinda knew what I was walking into when I watch the series. The series was okayyy, sometimes I would just get on my phone cause some parts I got bored watching but other parts kept me intrigued.

I only watched it last month and I agree with so much of what you said. The writing issues, Punn's weird character contradictions, the way the mind-reading powers turned into time travel once he could actually affect reality through memories... So freaking weird.

I loved Revamp!  I’m new to the b/l and g/l world so I went into it completely blind.  I thought it was adorable.  I cried when I was supposed to cry and laughed when I was supposed to laugh.  I love SciFi/Fantasy and actually prefer more lighthearted options.  (Merlin over GOT for example)…and I thought Ramil reminded me of Matt Smith’s Doctor Who (11).  A great mixture of childlike wonder but can flip a switch and look intimating with an old soul.  I even rewatched it to find any hints for the future “dream scene”.
