as a thai lesbian who read a lot of gl novels. i can guarantee that we have a lot of a gl authors, who are a sapphic themselves and wrote better than cpn 🙏🙏

Thailand needs better GL writers honestly. Loved how the writers from US the series completely changed the og plot and turned it into a green flag Masterpiece!!

I've always heard the jokes that "Chao Planoy deserves jail time" in Thai GL spaces, but I had no idea about half of these controversies. Thanks for covering them!

The good thing about Chao Planoy's adaptations is that many times they change most of the story and only use the prompt.

She’s just another glorified Wattpad scribbler, cobbling together recycled plotlines from equally mediocre writers and passing it off as original. Then, some Thai GL producers came along, cleaned up the mess, and somehow turned it into watchable content. And just like that, she became famous! all thanks to badly written GL novels dressed up by people who actually know what they’re doing.

NOTHING could’ve prepared me for that facebook post 😭😭😭

Everytime I try to get into a popular GL, I end up finding it creepy, so it's good to know she's behind all of them.

I was not expecting the Hitler plot twist. Wtf????

All of those series are ones that I’ve started but couldn’t finish. Now I understand why. I have a lower tolerance for toxicity in GLs.

9:59 girl the way my jaw dropped

Hi! I’m Thai and used to be a huge fan of Chao Planoy’s early novels! The algo suggests me this video and I was so shocked and sad. During her debut in the early 2000 I used to devour all of her straight novels. She was talented and I was impressed that a highschool girl around my age got her online novels published with a huge publishing house like Jamsai. Her young adult novels around 2005-2010 were so funny, wholesome and cute. I loved that her heroines were so fiesty and witty. Her writing seriously broke the stereotype of Thai heroine being dainty and cute. She got a huge fanbase around that time. I saw people queue up to get the books signed in the national book fair. I didn’t really follow her after my highschool and undergrad years because I just outgrew the the young adult genre.

So I was surprised that Chao Planoy went self published and was one of the first GL writer. I thought to myself that it was good for her since traditional Thai publishing houses around the 2010s were very traditional and also there was a pornography prohibition act (LGBTQs content in general was swepted as “corn content” during that time 😥 yup.)  Most LGBTQs content during the early 2000s had to be underground. I felt old remember how hard it was getting a copy of Japanese BL manga. It felt almost like we were dealing drugs. 😭 The homophobia was rampant.

Anyways, due to the fact that Chao Planoy already had a huge fanbase from Jamsai and being one of the early GL writers, she became more popular that her novels were prone to be selected for the TV adaptation.

I think her straight PG-13 content to mature GL content pipeline is due to her growing out of her writing style (think Disney stars) and wanting to create shock value. There’s also the fact that in the sad world of capitalism, sex and taboo, graphic content sells. I think this is exactly why the producers intentionally picked mostly controversial and morally questionable content. It creates strong reaction, viral content and online discussion despite it being bad marketing and hurtful to the LGBTQ community worldwide.

(Thanks for reading my long rant. Also, you earned a sub. Keep up the good work! ✨✌️)

everytime i find something creepy in thai gl i just know planoy is behind it

I didn’t know about this, thank u for putting the information together! The flirting with Becky thing is insanely creepy, especially as the age gap is so similar to the problematic age gap in Blank (even more actually), this just feels very icky…

It's not surprising for authors to have written straight romance even if they now write gay/lesbian romance. It's probably an entry point for them. It's easier to reach a huge audience because there's just more straight people.

She did what with Becky?! -- I would have never known if not for this video! I have always found her stories kinda weird with a lot of unnecessary toxic drama. But never thought too much about it to question her as a person.

Wow her roots are deep in the Thai tv industry if she is the author of the ugly duckling series. both bl and gl series need to source books from different authors to stop the same people getting a foothold and unfair influence in the industry.

Do production houses read a lot of gl books or do they just go by the most popular book no matter the contents?

Chao planoy slander!? I'm in!

She's basically the sapphic and himejoshi version of mame and addicted/revenged love author (forgot her name).

The H post was not expected😰

One thing that I noticed when you were talking about her straight romances background... right in 11:25 on the video... the book cover art is... something else (like, the girl in the art seems really more younger that the guy. So... maybe her straight romances have the same issue)

so she basically created them all. i hate some of the plots tbh like there is always someone that have to marry to a man , the how can i like her when she is a woman , the school romance and the abusive fathers situations if we can have grown women loving each other and being well just out and proud it would be awesome
