Pirates and so many other subtitles! Johnny Depp is in it. Long requested, glad to finally get to it. It's something of a masterpiece and this is only part 1! Here's everything right with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! (Part 1)

The best line in this film is when Jack is told that the dock is off limits to civilians, and his reply is "I'm terribly sorry i didnt know, if i see one i shall inform you immediately"

Missed politeness win from Will, when a pirate almost chops him to death during the raid:
- Say "Goodbye"
Pirate gets hit
- Goodbye

I love how Elizabeth's father is constantly clueless. Dude hear cannon fire, saw lights in the distance, and instead of heading for cover he goes "Ooo pretty"

"I'm curious. After killing me, what was it you were planning on doing next?"

Barbossa is a great critical thinker, too!

Sparrow sways when he walks on dry land because he's acclimated to the swaying of the ocea.....
WHY WOULD I NOT HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS?!?!

"but why's the rum gone?" never gets old

Speaking of favourite lines:
"You cheated, in a fair fight I'd beat you"
"Not much incentive for me to fight fair then is it."
That lead child me to actually think about strategy

"The compass doesn't even point North"
"Aye, but we aren't tryna go North are we?"

I had never realised that Barbossa watching Elizabeth eat was less him being an evil womanising creep and more so just the fact that he hasn’t tasted or felt since before he was cursed

Being deprived of basic human functions for so long and possibly not being able to be released from it would make anyone mad

quick note: already present in Barbossa's mannerism is his desire to be classy.
His big words, his fancy hat, him dining with class; it all alludes to his wish to be of higher standing.

"One good deed is not enough to redeem a man of a lifetime of wickedness." "Though it seems enough to condemn him."
I didn't know this the first time I watched but the reason Jack says that is because the reason he was labeled a pirate was because he freed slaves he was suppose to transport. The good deed of freeing slaves condemned him to be branded as a pirate for the rest of his life. I really wish they kept the deleted scene from at worlds end explaining the situation.

11:21 man, you could call the cgi/special effects in this movie "dated," and you'd be right, but GOD the transition from normal human to skeleton zombie is still ten out of goddamn TEN

My favorite line: Me, I am dishonest and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly, it is the honest one's you've got to watch out for.

THis movie still holds up when compared to the others. Mainly because while Johnny Depp was allowed to be weird, it was still the restrained kind that made it clear that while Jack acts like an idiot, he's actually insanely clever and a competent pirate.

3:56 this also takes a new meaning if you know why jack was branded as a pirate in the first place. He used to work for the British navy until he freed a ship transporting 100 slaves hence the "people ain't cargo mate" line and the reason why Jack's soul is worth 100 souls

I personally love the moment after Jack saves Elizabeth and then threatens her so he can escape. As Elizabeth is giving him back his accessories and putting his sash/belt around him, he leans his head over her shoulder and smirks at Norrington, like he's teasing him, "Yeah, your girl's got her arms around me—and there's nothing you can do about it."

The soldiers closing their eyes while firing is actually historically accurate. It was to prevent the sparks from the flintlock from burning your eyes.

Edit sidenote: It was very common for naval officers to be in their early teens back in the day. Depending on Norrington's rank he might just be a couple years older than Elizabeth.

12:17 another thing to pay attention to in this scene is that Jack is eating a banana, and in sailing superstitions it's bad luck to bring bananas on a ship, so it acts as another way to show his disregard of the superstitions, along with having a woman on a boat.
