39:40 The reason the Fire Nation was able to industrialize so fast and sustain its war effort was because, with fire bending, they basically had a limitless fuel source. Changing that brakes the setting.

Iroh might be a generic philosophy guy to people who read that kind of stuff, but you also have to realize that at the end of the day, Avatar is a kids show and you can't go too deep as to make it completely indigestible to the target audience.

Whenever someone says animation needs to be adapted to live-action movies, just run. You've seen it before, why watch an inferior version when animation can do so much better?

The issue with any live action adaptation of Avatar is that you're trying to condense his adventures from 26 episodes to a measly 2 hour movie or 8 episode season. Aang's initial adventures especially in book 1 were important to his initial character development. By the time book 2 and 3 comes, he has already suffered through a lot of things like losing pieces of his Air nomad culture.

Kip: "Wait, there's a Netflix adaptation??"
Me: Bruh, he showed the poster of it multiple times!!!

26:24 To quote Nostalgia Critic's review of this movie.
"A TANK!! SHE THREW A TAAANNK!!!
And you have 1-2-3... 6!!! 6 Guys throwing this ONE rock!
Let's show this again. Yours. Theirs. Yours. Theirs. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!?"

And yes, you missed quite the drama

13:05 Airbenders? Mostly based on the monks of Tibet, I thought.

The worst thing about this movie that ive come to find out later is that apparently the shows creators wanted to make a 4th book that wouldve properly wrapped up the story of aang and the other cast members, but paramount decided that was stupid and they wanted a live action avatar movie instead and put millions of dollars into that, which is why most of the post story stuff involving zukos mom, aang and katara getting married tophs issues with her parents were all resolved in the avatar comic series instead of being animated. Honestly i would kill to see the faces of the paramount execs at the time when they realized they burnts millions on this trash fire instead of doing what wouldve worked.

Speaking about the Aang actor it's pretty crazy how you can be the main character in a big infamous blockbuster and years later just go back to being a normal dude with a normal job

Always love me some PointlessHub, something about his deadpan delivery just works for me :D

29:20 The sad thing is that this movie doesn't work even if you try to imagine it as a live action rendition of the Ember Island Players. The literal in-universe anti-Avatar propaganda stage play is better adapted and paced than the Live Action movie

Earth is chinese, Air Nomads are Tabet, Fire is Japan, Water is based on the Arctic Tribes, Inuit.

Very inyeresting is the paralles Avatar shares with the Dalai Lama and Tabetian Buddism. With Aangs teacher being directly named off of the Dalai Lama,Gyatso. His son in legend of Korra is also named for the Dalai Lama, Tenzin.

Yea, I spent the entirety of my school experience being made fun of because my friends and I would go out to the playground and roleplay a fantasy world that we created. People would make fun of us for it but it sparked my creative vision and thus turned me into the artist that I am today.

I am going to be honest: I think people overhype Bloodending's power.
Hama wasn't that strong; she was amazing against two to three opponents, but if ANY of them could fight back mentally, she needed to hyper-focus on that one, leaving her open to attacks. She didn't even bother trying to control Katara again in that fight. It seemed like controlling three people when one was mentally fighting was too much for her. To be clear, you don't need to be a bloodbender or even a waterbender to fight back. In LOK, Mako fought back. Which means a team of 5 non-bending archers can probably take her out.

Though the problem in LOK isn't bloodbending, it was that a water bender was that strong at all. Every time the creators describe how bloodbending works in interviews, they say it requires raw spiritual power to literally overpower the other person's spirit and body. Which suggests he was WAY beyond a normal human. If he can overpower everyone in that courtroom all at once, when it isn't even a full moon, he should be able to make a tsunami that can destroy the city. He should be able to make a monster out of water like Aang did when he made that octopus move, but the size of the moon spirit kaiju.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the moon spirit gave his ancestor spirit energy, and if everyone in the family inherited superbending.

N!AtLA is definitely better than Shamalamadingdong's disaster, but it's still... very flawed. Drew Gooden actually has a really solid video about the Netflix AtLA series called "Netflix missed the point of Avatar".

Like, some really dumb character changes like taking away Sokka's brief sexism towards the Kyoshi Warriors... but then just making Suki unbearably horny for Sokka to the point where she's staring at him lustfully from a distance, and once "accidentally" catching him changing.

Or Aang telling the audience how he "loves to play Airball, eat banana cakes, and goof off with (his) friends" like he's reading a his social media profile (or about to break into song), and then proceeds to never be the fun-loving kid he's supposed to be, because the show needs to be super duper serious like Game of Thrones.

Or Katara literally becoming a Waterbending master without training under another master - just reading the Waterbending scroll, and the only reason why she couldn't Waterbend before was because she "wasn't really trying".

Or that they're apparently going to make Toph "more feminine" in season 2.

EDIT: So apparently, aside from the really cringe "I'm Toph Beifong and I invented Metalbending" line, Toph was probably the best part of N!AtLA Book 2.
Other dumb highlights include:
- Teenage Aangst and being mad at everything 24/7, even before Appa gets lost.
- Speaking of Appa, they did the Serpent's Pass before they lose Appa for some reason. Which makes that entire thing make no sense because they can fly.
- Sokka doing absolutely nothing.
- Characters explaining what they're doing or what they're doing as if the writers are fully expecting everyone watching to be on their phones.
- Aang being like "I was really mean to my friends, I should change that", and Iroh tells him he should not and cannot change because that's who he really is, and it's not his friends' problem if they don't like it.
- Iroh having no personality other than to be sad, pathetic, and hating himself. They even imply he didn't feel bad about the siege of Ba Sing Se until after he came back with Zuko, where he goes through PTSD and self-pitying guilt.

He forgot the biggest sin against Katara in this movie: NO HAIR LOOPIES. Or if they're there you can't see them very well.

4:42 i mean, not that Avatar isn't great... but it's also a kid's show. Your friend is correct, but he's also applying a mismatched set of standards imo
From another perspective, it's impressive how well Iroh manages to teach these basic philosophical concepts to a child audience.

13:05 The Airbenders are based on Tibetan Monks, and the Water Benders are more eskimo or inuit based

"Seals are good" has a great Start Wars series. It's very fun
