What I love about this channel is how simple you keep it. Not recipes requiring 100 ingredients and a full day of baking to complete but rather 5-10 ingredients and a couple of hours of baking. Perfect! Much higher chance of me actually trying it. Also, you don’t do a lot of the misinformed, performative nonsense a lot of younger YouTubers do - like wearing plastic gloves (in your own kitchen) or strain you flour (like a 19th century baker desperately trying to get lumps and weevils out of your flour). Instead, you act like someone who knows what you’re doing and when to act a certain way.

Oh my days, I've not made splits for years. Everything I know about baking comes from my grandma. I would go and stay with my grandparents every weekend and I would be woken up to her saying something along the lines of "come on Chile, we've got pasties (or whatever else we had planned) to be baking today" I have fond memories of my grandad having fresh homemade splits with thunder and lightning, if there were no splits he'd substitute for fresh homemade farmhouse white loaf sliced as thin as he could possibly get it. Man, I miss them both so much. My gran was the main positive female role model in my life and it broke my heart when she passed. Wow this video of yours has brought up all sorts of emotions in me, all because of a recipe for Cornish splits! You know what I'm going to be baking this week! ❤

I remember these as a child, from Aunt Heather Hockney, Helston, but with jam. I also remember choking on the "dust" more than once!

LOL...Devonshire Rabbits. Well, being one of those, I have to say I had never heard of Cornish Splits. This was the first time EVER that i have watched a cooking recipe and had no idea what was being made, so that was a first; and wow, took me back to my childhood when we would have sliced bread with syrup and cream on as a Sunday afternoon treat. My dad was an artisan baker and recommended putting a small amount of the flour in with the yeast to help it get going.
