British context here: This is set during WW 2. The bombing attacks were called the Blitz and targeted cities and large towns. Children were sent to the countryside where there wasn't any bombing. They had labels around their necks that had personal information as the parents stayed in the cities to help war efforts (men in active war, women working in factories producing equipment for the war).

Cory unknowingly saying “Jesus Christ” right as Aslan was about to rise from the dead absolutely cracked me up

The Professor (Professor Kirk) actually went to Narnia as a child... And brought back an apple which grew into a tree which was made into the wardrobe... That's why he immediately believed Lucy

“Do not cite the deep magic to me witch, i was there when it was written”

I use this all the time!!

A key thing that the movie doesn't quite go into is that the Turkish Delight that Edmund ate was enchanted. He was under the witch's control as much as he was being a stubborn kid. The book descibes him as feeling kind of ill and unsteady when they meet the Beavers.

Also the story takes place while rationing would have been in full effect so the draw of sugary treats would have been unimaginably tempting at that time. He likely hadn't had a treat like that in several years.

The reason Edmund is called "Edmund the Just" is because of the wisdom he gained after initially betraying his siblings.  He was self-centered and indulging in self-pity when he betrayed them.  He later repented and Aslan forgave him.  Then he was willing to sacrifice himself to help Peter in the battle, both out of love and out of a dutiful understanding that his brother had a higher calling than he did (as High King).  Wisdom is gained through humility.  Beautiful character arc!

The scene where Lucy enters Narnia was also the first time the actress saw the set. The producers wanted her real reaction so they kept everything a secret from her until they started shooting.
And James McAvoy was very careful in the scenes with her. He didn't want to scare her and always asked if she was okay.

Something you didn't noticed is, the crown of the witch it melting slowly to show her influence is weaken.

The reason why edmund wanted the turkish delight so badly is because it was spelled. If you eat any food she gives you, you immediately crave more, and will constantly crave it, and will eventually do anything to get more.

Fun fact: Nick and Cory missed one of the most iconic lines from this movie, which is when Aslan responded when the witch asked "Have you forgotten the laws upon which Narnia was built?" because they were in the middle of discussing something else 😆

43:03 Corey saying 'jesus Christ' at the most perfect time IM CRACKING UP SO HARD 😭😭😭😭😭

49:15 Fair. In the books, they earn these titles over the years of ruling Narnia, but in the movie they mention those titles while they’re being crowned kings and queens 🤷‍♀️

Since you probably missed it: the White Witch is actually wearing a headdress made of Aslan's mane into battle

Fun facts/details: C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were very close friends. Even for people who are not religious or Christian recognise the Christian allegory throughout the film. Tolkien was even instrumental in Lewis' own conversion to Christianity. Aslan represents Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself and died for our sins (in this case Edmund's) and rose back from the dead because he was innocent. Aslan means lion in Turkish (also a lion as in the Lion of Judah). Although Lewis did not originally set out to incorporate Christian elements and themes into the books, it is something that occurred as he wrote them.

The character of The White Witch was inspired by the Snow Queen from the story by Hans Christian Andersen (Elsa from Frozen is loosely based on her too since she was originally supposed to be the villain). Also, the Turkish Delight was enchanted and highly addictive, making the one who ate it want more and more as well as being more susceptible to give out information (though Edmund's resentnent towards Peter definitely helped). Edmund has often been compared to Judas, who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Edmund betrays Aslan, who represents Jesus, for "30 pieces" of Turkish Delight. "He's not a tame lion" & "But he IS good" - It's worded a little differently in the book but I still love that as commentary of Jesus.

J.K. Rowling has said she was influenced by Narnia and whether it was on purpose or not, each of the Pevensie children could represent each of the houses in Hogwarts. Peter = Gryffindor ❤️🦁: Brave, loyal, honourable, chivalrous and a natural leader who protects his family at all costs, but is impulsive and proud. Edmund = Slytherin 💚🐍: Ambitious, resourceful and falls into temptation to gain power and recognition. Susan = Ravenclaw 💙🦅: Logical, wise, intelligent, witty, caring and often the voice of reason. She also has a bit of Slytherin in her: Ambitious and resourceful. Lucy = Hufflepuff 💛 🦡: Kind, helpful, selfless, forgives easily and treats everyone as equals. She also has a bit of Gryffindor in her: Brave and loyal.

The book/film takes place in WW2 during a famous bombing period known as The Blitz. Germans made it to London and started performing air raids. A lot of children were sent away for safety to other family members/charitable strangers living in the country where there were no attacks.

Georgie Henley's (Lucy) first reaction to Narnia is genuine. They didn't let her see the set until they filmed it. Her reaction to Mr. Tumnus is also genuine, for she had not seen James McAvoy in his costume before the scene was filmed.

For a book series mainly for children, it has faced scrutiny and even bans through the years. It has been banned twice in the U.S., first in 1990 and then in 2005 (the same year this film came out), with critics pointing to concerns over violence and Christian allegory.

In the book, the scene where Aslan is stabbed by the witch is primarily told from Lucy's POV. She couldn't bear to watch so she looked away. This is adapted here by not showing the knife actually go into Aslan's body and instead focusing on his face.

Obviously, Narnia time works differently than the real world. In the books, Narnia time from beginning to end covers ca. 2500 years, while in the real world, that same time only covers 50 years.

Even though in the books they are seen getting more combat training, I assume their the amount of skills they learn in such a short amount of time are part of the magic/fantasy aspect.

The healing potion only works if the person if injured. If they're dead it doesn't work.

I didn't notice Jadis wearing Aslan's mane during the battle for the longest time, and if I remember correctly that wasn't in the book.

The lion, the witch and the wardrobe is the reverse order in which each appears.

1:41 no, this is set during the London Blitz. Families or large manors would offer to house the children of families who were displaced or in danger. So in this case, the man they go to stay with has offered the children refuge so the mother can ensure their safety

Fun fact: The professor went to Narnia as a child, and was one of the first people to ever step foot in Narnia, exactly during the moment it was created.
The wardrobe was made from an apple tree that grew after he planted half of an apple that he found in Narnia.

This film is such a hidden gem so many people overlook it, but it holds a special place in my heart. It brings back so many memories from when I first watched it, and it's been quite a while since I last saw it ❤ thank you for watching it.

Them not understanding the Christian undertones of Aslan sacrificing himself for Edmund and saying "that's like sacrificing your queen to save a pawn" is actually such a good analogy for Jesus' sacrifice

Imagine being a King/Queen in Narnia for +30 years and then going back to being a teenager in WW2 United Kingdom lol must've sucked ass

As a Christian, I can attest to the fact that this movie is very Christian. 😂
