That LAIV MICRO Harmony DAC has caught my interest  🤔

This is a good comparison between the LAiV Harmony µDDC and the Singxer SU-6. I agree about the limitations of the Harmony µDDC's limitations of having a single I²S output which prohibits it's application if you have more than one DAC in play. In this regard, the Singxer SU-6 is the only DDC that offers what a user might need especially with multiple I²S outputs. I'm certain that many users will find this the biggest disadvantage. I have been waiting for Singxer to update/upgrade the SU-6 for some time and hope such a device will be forthcoming as I strongly endorse the I²S protocol. Having said that, it is my opinion that a DDC is an essential part of a digital audio chain, and should not be ignored. Thank you for your insightful commentary.

USB is clearly better than coax on Laiv uDDC at least. Better technically while retaining emotional connection. That's while I generally prefer coax for emotional connection.

Edit: that's a good review. And I hate uDDC doesn't have other outputs (AES/EBU or USB at least), because I like trying other DACs. Works wonders with uDAC though.

LAiV has now come out with the µDAC, on top of the Harmony DAC. So it isn't outside the realm of possibility that they will make a full-sized DDC.

I’m looking at upgrade options to my system.   My speakers are a high-end DIY project which is a 3-way open baffle speaker using a compression horn for the tweeter passively crossed over to a mid/woofer which is then electronically crossed over to the woofers.  Currently, the is a Class AB amp powering the tweeter/midrange and a Class D amp powering the woofers (crossover frequency is 100 hz).

I’m looking for a more organic presentation in the upper frequencies.  Up until now, I was looking at tube amps.  Now, based on the reviews I’m seeing, the LAIV mono blocks could get me there as well, particularly if used with other LAIV products.  In the vein, the uDDC, LAIV uDAC and LAIV mono blocks are a possibility.  

My source equipment is the MiniDSP SHD which has a 4 channel DAC built in.  I can bypass the internal DAC either completely or just 2 channels.  What I’m considering is by passing the internal DAC for the upper frequencies (above 100 hz), but using the SHD internal DAC for the bass (100 hz and below).  Am I creating problems for myself by doing this?  I’m happy with the bass response, but want something a little more laid back and organic in the upper frequencies.

This is very insightful thank you. I was just wondering about the differences that the sonore ultra rendu made compared to the two other usb sources, I believe you didn’t say about that. Did you still benefit from the very clean and well timed usb output of the Sonore compared to a pc for instance?
