IMO the original film's writing is strong because its Blatty for both novel and screenplay. The novel basically IS the screenplay.

After seeing the movie, I didn't find this as scary as I did having empathy at the loss of family and friendship and the strength of people of different religions joining forces without prejudice — along with a surprise ending that finally wasn't a jump scare! 👍

I just got out from seeing this movie and I must mention that I love your honesty. I strongly agree with your opinion, the original Exorcist film is very hard if not almost impossible to follow up but Exorcist Believer is not a bad film at all and does not deserve all the hate it’s getting. I will absolutely watch it again in theaters and will get the 4K when it comes out.

That Chris McNeil 'patriarchy' line is one of the worst lines of dialogue I've ever heard in decades of film-watching.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I am going in to see it this weekend with a similar mindset.   It’s hard to scare or shock us these days.  I think if they manage to make us care again, care enough to break our hearts and fall in love with characters, then it’s a win

I really respect that you get that this is not about the scares- The Exorcist has always been about character and relationships in the questions of faith

I appreciate your review. It bummed me out seeing all these negative reviews because it seemed like everyone went in with a preconceived notion of it not being good because of who is directing and the name of the movie. Thanks for your review.

Exactly, If this wasn't labeled as, or connected to The Exorcism franchise in anyway , people would not be having the same hate about it.

My showing literally starts in 10 minutes!! Will watch your review soon as I get home 😊

Stumbled on your channel not too long ago and enjoy your reviews.

We have really similar opinions on this, Talk To Me and When Evil Lurks.

Keep up the good work and I’m glad your channel is exploding!

Great video ! Well done

I see the film this Saturday. The items that don't work with me relate to Chris MacNeil. Chris being fascinated by exorcism doesn't work with me. Chris wouldnt have written this book. Chris would not have known about the words "help me" appearing on her daughter.

I just watched it last night and I'm still meh about it. Thanks for your honest review. It's good to see some honest discussion about the highs and lows of this film. Looking forward to your ranking video.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO LETS GO EVAN

Loved your review, and will be back to leave my thoughts on the movie after I've seen it. As a photographer, lighting and framing go a long way to perfecting ambiance. Good acting? We'll see. I still have my doubts. I mean, The Exorcist. Come on.  For me it's still the scariest movie of all time. Nothing will ever compare to it.

Oh and by the way am a new subscriber an I'm loving what you have to say,  nicely done i doff my hat to you 😊

I liked your unbiased lens on this film, everyone else has been crapping on it all around. I have yet to see it myself but like to keep an open mind

I think you nailed it when you said they needed to check a box to make it a requel lol

I've watched many interviews with William Peter Blatty and he had an actual priest advising him as he was writing The Exorcist.  He wanted a story that caused people to think about the possibility of a battle between good and evil that wasn't cheesy or predictable.  The scene in the book and movie regarding a possessed Reagan and the crucifix wasn't for shock value.  WPB stated he needed some reason for Chris to turn to a priest for help because she was an atheist and didn't believe in God or the devil.  So many movies about demonic possession focus on shock value and jump scares and very little on character development.   With the original Exorcist, you care about what is happening to Reagan, Chris, Father Karras, etc., as they are going through this nightmare.

Could not disagree more with your take on this...fortunately we all have opinions and different tastes... I seen this film Thursday night at a Watch Party of 100...at the after party I did not speak with one individual who shared your views. Thank you for your review
