"I didn't know Dolly was a Songwriter"
Oh my sweet child.

Not only did she write it, it’s 100% true story.  The actual coat of rags is on display in her Dollywood museum.

Oh honey.  This is one of the most successful songwriters in history.  And best story tellers.  And biggest philanthropists.  And sweetest humans.

Dolly has written over 3,000 songs. She wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston did a cover) on the same day in a few hours.

National Treasure. I don’t even LIKE country music, but Dolly transcends musical genres. She has a special heart. Warm, giving, infinitely talented, humanitarian. We don’t deserve her.

Dolly was truly rich long before her millions.  Long live Dolly Parton.

Dolly has written more than 3 thousand songs.

Dave, see if you can find a list of songs Dolly has written which were made famous by various singers. You will be impressed. Her family was very, very poor when she was growing up. She has provided millions of books free of charge for schools everywhere to encourage literacy  in memory of her father, who couldn't read or write

Dolly was the 4th of 12 children raised in a one-room cabin in Pittman Center Tennessee..

So many people have mentioned that Dolly has written over 3,000 songs. Related, Dolly early on set up her own publishing company.  As a result, she still owns the rights to her work, and that is a major source of her wealth.

When this song became a hit, Dolly asked her Mama to make her a replica of the coat to put in her museum. You see Dolly's mother had 12 children and that coat would have been passed down to the next one, The replica is in her museum because it was picture day at school and that photo is also in her museum . She looks about 9 in that photo,  Her best selling song is "I will always love you,; yes, the same one that Whitney Houston sane in The Bodyguard.

Also, 9-5 is a song that has much deeper meaning if you read the lyrics. Dolly rarely delves in divisive activism. However, when she does it is typically in her songwriting. 9-5 is an example of that.

To many Americans, Dolly Parton is a national treasure. She's divinely talented, shrewdly intelligent and gracious generous. Every newborn in Tennessee gets a new book every your on their birthday to age 5 to fight illiteracy in honor of her father who couldn't read. She's known to quietly donate substantial amounts of money to many charities.

I see you’ve been schooled in the chat about Dolly so I won’t pile on.  Dolly is a storyteller and has lived a unique life.  She’s very open and honest about her life and she is whip smart and very kind.

From starting out as a “girl singer” from the hills of Tennessee to being the most-honored female country performer of all time who has received eleven Grammy Awards and three Emmy Awards, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award she’s done quite well.

She’s also in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

My favorite rendition of this song was in an Irish pub, when Dolly was on vacation and had not intended to perform.

Dolly wrote and sang  also had a hit -I will always love you - covered by whitney houston . Dolly is a grand lady and has donated for flood victims in Tennessee also has an eagle sanctuary  for eagles unable to be released into the wild

Dolly is so awesome. Her Music, Movies, Themepark, Waterpark, Dinner Theater, Philanthropy, Eagle Preserve, donating millions of books for children. She recently purchased and is rebuilding a truckstop/travel center in Tennessee. Even though I'm a retired trucker, I will go there when it opens to check it out and get a good meal.

Someday you may be soulful enough to "get" this level of greatness.   Keep listening and learning.

This is one of the most uninterested and silliest reactions of this sweet and sentimental masterpiece by Dolly Parton that I’ve seen on YouTube. This song is in The Grammy Hall of Fame, in The United States Library of Congress for its historical and cultural significance, and awarded for surpassing over one million broadcast performances. This reaction is an example of someone who doesn’t know much about an artist and showing their disinterest in treating the artist’s material seriously when being presented with an opportunity to learn with respectfulness in mind.

Her song Coat of Many Colors is a true story
