It's impressive that they nailed the 8-bit vibe on a C64, instead of relying on the modern DLSS and raytracing cores

Space Moguls looks very much like a love letter to Mule. I absolutely loved that game as a kid. Looks fun!

First time I saw VVVVVV in my Linux PC, I thought it was a C64 conversion. It appears it wasn't but now it is. The loop is closed

Another amazing video, thanks again! This time, I had all these in my collection, but, these are some really great games, thanks for sharing!

I'm really glad to se VVVVVV has been fully ported to the C64. I saw a demo of a port in progress years ago but I have no idea if that port ever got completed, or if this one is the same port by the same game dev.

A lot of people think the C64 had blocky games even compared to the Spectrum. Well yes it did, but it actually had a higher resolution of 320x200 compared to the Spectrum's lower 256x192. The problem is most games used double pixel width 160x200 mode in exchange for having 4 colours per character instead of 2 like the Spectrum, but with the C64's independent hardware sprites you could still avoid the colour clash the Spectrum is so infamous for. Some C64 games also used double width and/or double height sprites making them very blocky too. I like seeing games that utilitise the 320x200 resolution like Shadow Switcher and Zombie Calavera, proving that C64 games didn't have to be blocky.

Super cool!

The game inspired by Rastan actually contains also a clear reference to Zelda 2. One of the monsters appearing in the short video is dentical to a z2 enemy!

I still remember the code that enabled the c64 to simulate a joystick on the keyboard:)

Shadow Switcher is an interesting idea?
Sydney Hunter would have blown us away back in the day & I need to play it! Same for Yoomp! 64 too.
Age of Heroes looks interesting? One to look in to.
Starfysh looks like an R-Type copy & that doesn’t have to be a bad thing?
Thank you for the pronunciation of “VVVVV” very helpful, thanks. 😄

Once again everything on this list would have blown us away in the day, even the ones I’d have just sat & watched my mates play & the scene is still so alive. It’s great to see these games highlighted & brought to our attention, thanks.

As a huge fan of Bounder and Trailblazer. Yoomp 64 is definitely going on my to do list

They are nice, but I do not see any significant improvement compared to the old stuff, like Silkworm (my personal favorite), Turrican II, Armalyte etc.

Vortex Crystals seems to stand out. And I like the Zombie game because of it's clever layout and design, allowing it to use pure black hires sprites and graphics (this makes the game engine shine).

Great selection of games! Thanks for presenting titles that worth playing!
Shadow switcher doesn't look impossible on 8-bit hardware, but like with most 8bit games, its all about a catchy idea that elevates the gameplay!
Now some details about Yoomp ! and the tricks that made it possible to run on the C64. The CPU speed of the C64 did allow the developers to use bitmap gfx like in the A8 port. Instead they took advantage of the advanced sprite engine and used sprites to draw and scroll the tube. The size limitations of the sprites forced the game to run in a smaller window but the scroll matches the smoothness and speed of A8 version.
There are a couple of additional difference but I don't really understand the reason behind them. i.e. the ball bounces really low , especially when pressing the fire to jump and there is a reduced interaction with the tube tiles compared to the A8 version. Other than that the game's feeling and gameplay is equally good. I enjoy playing both ports!
Sydney Hunter is the game that impressed me the most....Montezumas vibes.
Great version of a "Pengo" type of game too!
