I bought a Gomoku Spin lure similer to what you are talking about randomly from the shop and it worked before I even saw this video, I I lost it to a pike as I had run out of tracers on the trees...long story but that lure saved my day until that point.
Finally got out today after seeing this video a few weeks ago. Went out armed with a small spin tail and finally breaking a long dry spell with a good 35cm+ perch. Thanks for the tip Tom! 👍
I am new to Lure fishing and I’ve watched so many of his videos and learned so much and putting his advice into practice I’ve had some great results , a 41cm Perch on a disused Welsh 🏴 Canal.
Thanks for great advice & so willing to share your advice .🫡
That's super interesting! I'm no expert, but I had a very similar experience from mid-May to June. Starting on tungsten spintails, fished really fast close to the bottom was just cleaning up, attracting the larger fish of the shoal, then switching to a fast-twitched, small jerkbait to get those last few bites. Nothing else I tried came close for that 1 month period, then as soon as the water temperatures went up in late June, it suddenly stopped working. So, this video was really interesting for me, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Amazing as always Thom! Couple questions - you usually say whenever you have a treble you use a trace - do you use a trace with those little spintails?
Also how fast are you retrieving them? A lot of videos cover the techniques for jigs, but I’m not always sure what the retrieval should look like for something so heavy as those little spintails, particularly if you’re dealing with anything weedy
Very interesting Thom. Both you and Robbie are fantastic anglers, and it's good to see you're not too proud to take hints and tips from others and then share. I bet the Westin and Savage lure comparisons are interesting, as well as seeing what the companies chose to have in their catalogues when choosing lure manufacturers.
Was on a reservoir yesterday. Switched to different shad sizes instead of a crank baits, must've had about 10 trout in the first few hours, they were smashing the shads on the way drop aswell, quiet a nuisance too be honest 😂
