Brock Peters (Tom Robinson) started to cry while filming his testifying scenes, without rehearsing it this way, and Gregory Peck (Atticus Finch) said that he looked past him, instead of looking at him in the eye, to avoid choking up himself.

Brock Peters, who played Tom Robinson in the film, delivered Gregory Peck's eulogy on the date of his funeral and burial, Monday, June 16, 2003.

Gregory Peck's summation speech, which runs for 6 minutes and 30 seconds, was nailed in a single take.

02:16 not only is “Boo” still alive…he’s still a working Hollywood legend…this was Robert Duvall’s first movie! ❤️❤️

This is the rare movie where every single actor turns in an incredible performance - even the smallest of one-line roles.

Arthur is Boo's real name.  Boo is the nickname that the neighborhood gave him.  Children addressed their elders as Mr. or Mrs. with their first name.  So when Scout calls Boo "Mr. Arthur" at 31:37 she is being respectful.

This is one of the most faithful book-to-film adaptations ever made.  Harper Lee actually visited the set and said Gregory Peck reminded her of her father so much that she gave him his old  pocket watch.  One of my favorites.

Gregory Peck is in the poster because the movie actually is about him. His morals, ethics, the life lessons he is teaching to his kids...he is the moral compass and the heart of the movie.

“Hey Boo” gets me every time. Scout is able to see through the rumors, mystique, gossip, prejudice, etc. about Boo and sees him as a human being. I think she learned that from watching her father with Tom Robinson.

That “Miss Jean Louise, stand up…your father’s passing” line @ 24:57 gets me every damn time. “Atticus” has inspired generations of lawyers…Gregory Peck’s performance as Atticus truly epitomizes “quiet dignity”, “virtuousness” and “justice”.

My dad, Charles Scott, was the assistant director. He told me that they could all tell they were making something special. A lot of the cast and crew stayed close after filming ended.

"It doesn't feel like it's his movie"
Literally minutes before Gregory Peck delivers one of the greatest courtroom performances in the history of film.

In the book, it's clear that Tom pretty much lost the case when he says he felt sorry for Mayella. Simply the idea of a black man condescending to a white woman would have outraged the white jury.

Mayella suffers more than just being beaten by her father. In the book, when Tom Robinson recounts what happened, he says after Mayella tried to kiss him, "She says what her papa do to her don't count." She's a tragic character who not only suffers abuse but learns to be crafty and use her race to her advantage in seeking a way out of her hopeless situation.

"I almost feel like Tom was not running and just executed..." In the book, I believe he was shot 17 times in the back. That's not "shooting to wound." In any case, no reason to shoot that many times.

Gregory Peck had/has one of the absolute best, most stellar reputations in Hollywood history. I have never read or heard anything bad about him I have only heard accounts of what a lovely, intelligent, talented person he was.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that you are reacting to this movie. Not enough reactors do this masterpiece.

For decades, people assumed Scout, the little girl, was Harper Lee's perspective, how she had written her view into the story and where she spoke from personally.   When finally interviewed on the subject, she said Scout wasn't the character that matched her perspective... Boo Radley was.  ie. Boo Radley represented the silent majority, I guess, something she considered herself part of prior to writing the book.

Never known anyone perplexed by the structure of the movie.

From some reason, the reveal of Boo behind the door always makes me emotional no matter how many times I see the movie or read the book.

One scene that always hits me is at 14:30 with Scout talking down the Lynch mob with the pure kindness of a child.

So, (mild spoiler) Harper Lee is obviously Scout. And Dill is her real-life childhood friend, Truman Capote. And so here you have in this small Alabama town two of the most important writers (if sorta one-hit wonders) of 20th century American literature growing up side-by-side. Capote wrote "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and then found even greater fame for one of the first and best true crime books of all time, "In Cold Blood". That got its own black and white movie in the late 1960s, and then TWO movies about Truman Capote's obsession with the crime and the two perpetrators: 2005's "Capote" with Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the title character and Catherine Keener as Harper Lee, and 2006's "Infamous" with Toby Jones, Daniel Craig, Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee. All of 'em worth a watch either on channel or off.
