Durga Puja 2026 | Ray Chowdhury Family Puja and Its Anti-British Tradition
The Durga Puja at the Ray Chowdhury family home in Shibpur, Howrah, carries a distinctive historical legacy associated with the colonial era. According to the family's tradition, British officials were once not allowed to enter the Puja premises. The ritual of offering a symbolic white goat is also linked to this anti-British tradition. The idol's red hibiscus and lotus garland, along with the traditional red-bordered white sari, continue to reflect the family's heritage and memories of that period.
