If you only stick around the Wrocław market square, you haven't even discovered 20% of the city. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the city itself or tourist information, but this city is so much more than just the main square...

Just got back from Poznan. Really wonderful city. Especially Old Town. Loved the street cars!

In Poznań, Poles always made up more than 50% of the total population, whereas the people who flocked to Wrocław after 1945 were completely different. Residents of Poznań cared for the city's architecture and urban layout, while new residents of Wrocław, unsure how long they would stay, cared about nothing. Taka prawda - jak cały Dolny Śląsk, który po wojnie został wyszczerbiony z kamienic.

Over a thousand years of tradition, wiped off the world map three times, around 50 years of communism, two world wars, and 80% destruction—yet they have enjoyed democratic freedom for only about 30 years... No other country’s history even comes close to theirs... and it is unsettling to consider where humanity finds the values ​​of life.

2 beautiful cities with German, Bohemian, Austrian,  and Prussian history - since 1945 in Poland. I still would not call them "Polish Cities", but Cities in Poland.
Having said that, the Polish people that settled there when the German Population was kicked out, got kicked out themselfes out of East Poland, by Soviet Russia, that annexed Eastern Poland in 1945.
(Puts a bit of a perspective on the fact that the Western Allies declared War on Nazi Germany, because it invaded Poland - but they were fine with Russia invading it too, and even keeping the east of Poland...)
Anyhow, the Polish people who (not by choice) settled in the former German lands felt no connection; the buildings, the cities, it was all foreign to them.
But over the decades, especially after the Fall of the Iron Curtain, Poland did a marvelous job of not only putting their own polish note on things, but also rebuilding and restoring buildings beautifully, honouring the former German founders.
I just hope, that after all this, we can continue to be all good neighbours, that may have disagreements, but never go to war against each other again. I have hope for the EU to provide this.
I am saying this as German with Polish-German Ancestry.

Wrocław is neither Polish, nor Prussian, nor Czech Wrocław is simply Silesian. And Silesia is like a Polish cousin who, after years of wandering between great cities, chose this one the safest of them all to call home.
By the way, the Silesian language which originated in the Middle Ages and developed from Old Polish was spoken i wroclaw and silesia in general even during the era of Prussian Silesia.
