No usa has per capita more stabbings than uk

"Self-defence" would not only fail to be a valid reason to own a gun, it would get you flagged as potentially dangerous as it suggests your paranoia is sufficiently high that you would kill because of it. "To defend my property" would be even worse as it indicates that you consider your stuff to be more important than the lives of other human beings. The whole point is to exclude trigger-happy lunatics.

The stabbing rate per head of population in the USA is MUCH higher than the UK. It is just that murders in the USA are so common that it barely gets reported even in the area where it happens whereas because any murder in the UK is rare, they get reported a lot more.

It is impossible to compare UK and US statistics for knifes crimes as their definitions are widely differrent. In the us the stats only include those of death or  serious injury. In the uk our stats include what those in the US would call misdemeanors. In 24/25 55000+ knife offences where recorded of these were 256 deaths, 3700 resulted in hospital treatment. The bulk of the  remaining 50000+ would be possession of a bladed article (this generally means an offender was found with either a knife wth a locking blade or a knife with a blade greater than 3 inches in length) usually from carrying the blade in public. Though without valid reason possession of machete (zombie) knives  and swords in your own home could also result in prosecution.

An 11 year veteran of Dyffed-Powys (England and Wales' largest police jurisdiction) revealed on the show "Rookie Cops" that he'd only attended 3 stabbings in his whole career and never even seen a firerarm in reality.

UK guy here. I have never felt 'deprived' of a gun. I absolutely have no need of one. I can't imagine what I would use it for.

Fun fact regarding suppressors in the UK: we are ENCOURAGED to use them. Making loud bangs is considered rude.

You should look at two events that had a major influence on our gun laws, The Hungerford Massacre and the Dunblane massacre.

Handguns were banned in the UK approximately 1 year after a mass shooting at Dunblane School where a man shot teachers and 5 year olds.  This became law unless you were a member of a gun club but the weapon had to be kept in a locked metal cabinet.

I love they had to write not to scale for those who can't think independently.

More stabbings in America. And recorded Knife crime in the UK is all knife crime such as carrying a banned type.

You can also own an operational Tank. With an HGV licence and a Shotgun licence.

Greetings from Finland. Silencers in hunting rifles are very popular add-on in our hunting culture. When shooting game it helps sawing the hunters (with big game guns we use ear-protection and silencer) and especially our tracking dogs, so that they don't damage their hearing. Dog with hearing aid is not often seen in here.

Not only is gun crime staggeringly high in the USA but it also has a much higher incidence of knife crime per capita than the UK. Both of these facts make it a country to avoid, without factoring in the lunacy of the present administrations treatment of visitors.

There is more knife crime in LA than the whole of the UK a year, London has around double the amount of people than LA which means 1 US city has more knife crime than 4 countries of the UK

In the year ending March 2023 there were 29 deaths by firearm and 261 deaths by stabbing in the UK. Both statistics are well lower than the US. In the same period in the US there were 46,728 gun deaths inc. suicides and accidents (17,927 of which were homicides). Kniife murders 1,566 and 488 mass shootings into crowds or at schools, nearly 1.5 per day. Even taking the populations of both countries into consideration the UK is way safer.

Of course there are fewer stabbings in the UK, even per capita. No high-sixing with Uncle Dad on that one, 2A fans.

Americans see it as a freedom to be free to own a gun...and the British see it as a freedom to be free from guns

2:51 in the time it took to get to this point if the video, there was likely more gun related fatalities in the entire US than the uk has annually !

Some context to the UK's rules.
In 1987 a man went on a spree killing in a place called Hungerford, he carried a semi automatic Chinese AK47 clone, magazines of 30 7.62mm and an M1 Carbine. He also shot himself with a Browning Hi-Power. After this public ownership of the semi automatic, large magazine rifles was prohibited. Then in 1996 came the Dunblane school massacre where a man shot dead 17 people at a school in Scotland. He carried 2 .357 Magnum revolvers and 2 Browning 9mm automatic pistols. After this, these kinds of firearms were banned from public ownership. Two outrages, two reasonable responses. In the UK we hold no delusional beliefs that small arms can defeat tanks, artillery, helicopters, aircraft and most importantly trained soldiers.
