In this episode of Better Human Better Dog, I help Victoria and her family find the right dog after a terrible car accident broke both of her legs. She meets three rescue dogs at my ranch: Chaz the Pitbull mix, Maverick the Retriever Husky mix, and Oreo the Terrier puppy. Choosing the right dog is not about breed, size, or fur. It is about energy, temperament, and compatibility, and one of these dogs reads Victoria's anxiety in a way that changes everything.
I also work with Manuela, whose Pomeranian mix Fritz charges the fence and will not stop barking at every dog that passes. She calms him with affection, but affection at the wrong time rewards the wrong state of mind. I teach her to claim her yard with calm, confident corrections, and to save the affection for the calm behavior she wants more of. En mi rancho conoce a tres perros rescatados: Chaz, una mezcla de Pit Bull; Maverick, una mezcla de Retriever y Husky; y Oreo, un cachorro Terrier. Elegir al perro adecuado no se trata de raza, tamaño o apariencia. Se trata de energía, temperamento y compatibilidad, y uno de estos perros percibe la ansiedad de Victoria de una manera que lo cambia todo.
