You’re allowed to go back to work after traumatic events. Her going on to book jobs two months after her kidnapping is literally her trying to pay her bills. As a woman, you can’t do anything.

This case always makes me so sad, especially when she was formally diagnosed with autism and she was saying how because she 'didn't behave the right way' that no one believed her when really that's just how her brain works. I hope she's doing well.

Ok this is the first time hearing this story, and it is making me feel so furious, that because she doesn’t “sound like a victim” she isn’t being believed. As someone late diagnosed Autistic I can relate to her story, and I have heard of many autistic women who have had similar experiences of not being believed. Even if she isn’t autistic, she is the victim, people should stop questioning her story and instead be appalled by how she was treated by everyone, not just her kidnapper but the media, the police etc, nobody protected her. If she was a rich white male she would be treated so much more differently.

All I could think about while watching this was Colleen Stan. THAT story is way more unbelievable, yet it definitely happened! Something sounding ridiculous is not evidence of it being made up. Life is stranger than fiction.

I've been through something like this. I was held at gunpoint in my own home. I was held there for almost 2 days. The way everyone around me acted like it couldn't have happened or else I was highly exaggerating it or it was a "misunderstanding", was insane and I felt so crazy. When I used the words "held hostage", people automatically thought it was too absurd of a "story" that someone like me could be held hostage in their own home the way that I was at the time that I was. As if it had never happened before. Everyone blew me off, treated me like a liar and an attention seeker. The police never cared about anything. They completely disregarded me, were impatient with me,  fully judged me, and they accused me of knowing the guy and taking free drugs from him, feeling too ashamed because maybe I had "a little too much fun" and trashed my own home while in a drug induced frenzy. The reason they felt that was because the first time they had come to my home due to the hostage situation, apparently I looked "strung out." I mean, I probably did look strung out. Who wouldn't? I thought I was living in a nightmare or something. I was awake enduring abuse for almost 2 full days.I worried my children would grow up without a mother who loved them the way that they need. The way that I do. I thought I would die and never see the people I loved the most again. I had endured abuse, threats, torture and being berated by a crazy man who had just gotten out of a halfway house days prior according to him, a guy who was clearly wasn't right in the mind and wasn't ever making sense. I wasn't allowed to cry or speak if he didn't want to hear me. The consequences for doing so we're maddening and scary. I wasnt allowed to eat, drink, or use the bathroom. I had to wet myself and stay like that. I haven't felt safe since. I spiraled for a very long time before finally receiving therapy and getting myself a social worker.
  I won't ever share the details of how it began or what specifically happened during those 2 days with anyone again. I just want to say that I know how upsetting it is when you yourself know very well what you went through, how horribly traumatic it was, and how real it was. Only to finally escape it and beg for help from your friends, your family and the authorities, but no one takes you seriously. No one believes you. Not only do they not believe you, but they back stab you, they judge you, they spread rumors about you, and they speak poorly of you to your face. They tell you absurd things they think about you to your face and in front of your face. They laugh about you and discuss very sarcastic opinions about what they think really happened amongst themselves, but right in front of you. They laugh in your face...
  It's so heartbreaking. It's disappointing and it's so very lonely. You have to get rid of all of these people from your life who you really believed loved you or at least cared about you and your well being.
You start to consider and dwell on the "why me?", "how did this happen?", "what people were actually part of this?", "was this actually a conspiracy?", "if so, why?", "who would benefit from this?" and "if not, then why did this guy know my name and how did he come across my home and enter it in broad daylight?"
It's not something I hope for anyone to go through and it's why I always advocate for victims to be believed. I always try to play devils advocate when there is enough doubt in someone being a victim. How many people have been deemed crazy when they are actually just victims of a heinous crime and no one believes them? It's horrifying to even think about.

I've heard this story before but never the full details! A lot of True Crime Youtubers/Podcasters still very much paint an incomplete picture, where it absolutely seems like Chloe orchestrated this scheme with a lover, and roleplayed the abduction and drugging. Honestly, no, this makes me feel as if it was clearly an unhinged stalker who formed a parasocial relationship.

A lot of the hate towards Chloe really seems to boil down to her not being the "perfect victim"

So many people, especially neurotypical folk, have this idea in their head that a woman victim must always be on the verge of wailing in in tears whenever talking about her trauma and if your behaviour deviates from that mold even the slightest, well you can't possibly be a real victim

I hope she moves somewhere pleasant like Canada and lives in peaceful obscurity for the rest of her life. The British press will never leave her alone.

Also worth noting that autistic people tend to have high justice sensitivity - so considering how deeply fucking unfair it would feel to have everyone just say you were lying for basically no reason (on top of the trauma of the actual kidnapping), I'd say that Chloe handled herself quite well in the interviews tbh. Definitely better than I would have. 🤷‍♀

the way I clocked that autism straight away!! I am neurodivergent and have several friends on the autism spectrum.
but also: it's just infuriating that especially as an afab person you will only be credible if you are the perfect victim. any slight deviation - and I think Chloe had a combination of being unlikeable, wanting to be famous, being sexy ect - and nobody will believe you no matter what.

its masking, especially for someone who came from a single parent family, I have PTSD, and am nuero divergent, when I have to tell my story I disassociate, I'm there but I'm not.

I believe her. My gut instinct says she's telling the truth even tho my rational brain is getting caught up on the facts of the story. A tale like this is not hard to imagine happening, many similar proven crimes have occured and ended in murder. Its just that unfortunately she is a very unsympathetic victim to most people. She's too pragmatic, both before and after the crime. If she was just some nameless model and not a page 3 girl (with everything that represents) she probably would have been believed. Her unemotionality is striking, but I can see myself acting in a similar manner in her shoes. She is a little peculiar, but thats probably what saved her. She stayed calm and took agency in a situation where she was suppose to be hysterical, fold, and comply. She isn't acting how we expect a female victim of a sex crime to respond. She seems to reject the role of victim. I would not be suprised to uncover sexual abuse in her childhood/adolescence. Her choices in dream career (lawyer - seeking justice) and actualy job (nude model - making the most of what she knows people want from her) are telling. I hope she's doing alright now and her son hasn't had his life destroyed too.
