I was almost fooled by them imitating the look of detachable speakers.

I used to have this exact boombox, but I ended up getting rid of it because I couldn't get it opened to change the cassette decks belts. I wish this video was available back then, so I could have properly taken it apart without destroying it.

I love the look of this unit. I really like the choice of colors with the green strip along the top and the blue on the cassette decks.

love how everything is socketed.  what a quality machine!!  wouldn't mind having one myself!

This one's on my bucket list to get.

Haha, hearing that gave me an instant nostalgia flashback! Kyatto Ninden Teyandee

its a good idea, i appreciate that the year is 1983. i would have this, it feels like the kind of job that i have been getting ready for all my life.

Very cool unit to see.  A duel cassette and an 8-track!  I used to look at the electronics section of
JCPenney back in the day.  I don't recall ever seeing anything like that.  Great clean up and restore.
Neat that you can dub an 8-track to the cassette.  Awesome video Mr. Bear!  Cheers from North
Carolina!  🍻

Nice that it doesn’t have that darn plastic head bracket.  No problem with plastic so long as it doesn’t shrink and split à la Sony.  Just the other day I passed up a clean GE Power Sound in red.  The head was naturally hanging by the leads lol.

You'll note the interesting anomaly with the tape decks going slightly slack when you stop rewinding or fast forwarding.

Nice boombox! love it! always happy to watch your videos as Kevin(VWESTLIFE) videos too!

dad had one of those.

Very nice looking and well thought out unit it comes apart nicely some units can be a right pain .Sounds decent as well .

Wow 8 track on a boom box thats very interesting

I wouldn't say YORX is that cheap.. I found an early 80s all in one, turntable/8 track/cassette stereo system, at a local thrift with the two speakers and everything still works perfect without needing any belts or parts or even the needle for the turntable, only thing it needed was deoxit for the dirty controls.. I would say after 40+ years and both the cassette and 8 track mechanisms still holding up and without needing belts is pretty impressive..

The only JCPeney thing i have is cheap 1989 stereo system which has no thrills at all. the stereo all still works. In terms of sound quality its better than would expect form just looking at it.

I have one of those late 80s component 8tracks by Realistic. It's alignment and azimuth stuff had been screwed with so I never got it playing the best. Maybe the head thing is cracked I dunno. I just use cds and tapes so mostly so I never really cared enough to get it fixed.

Guys, the channel 80's Appliances just uploaded a video of a 1977 Kenmore washer that closely resembles the washer that Spats was talking about that his parents bought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrqUqsoBsuE

not sure why you think the styling was off... it looks very on point for what a lot of Japanese manufacturing was doing at the time..

Too bad 👎, JC Penney 😪 is gone. Whatever GREAT 👍 places, made GREAT electronics, is now defunct. You've got one of the last boomboxes. I've seen a few different portable AM/FM radios 📻 with 8-track tape players, but they're getting pretty rare, these days. Yours is in EXCELLENT CONDITION 👌!! Ya can find the belts for these online. Just be careful when making this purchase. The package 📦 contains quite a few belts, through several sizes. Chances are, once ya use one or two belts, the rest of them will turn into mush.
