The Sears own brand CD player that's surprisingly brilliant

I picked up this Sears LXI Series 934.97541650 CD player with very low expectations. Obviously someone made it on behalf of the former retail giant, but that usually leads to a low budget and low quality result. It came with a cut off power cord and so the first order of business was to replace it, but even while doing that I was impressed by the build quality. When it finally powered up though, the pleasant surprises kept coming. I love a fast disc read, and this player is right up there with the fastest I've seen. And that's not all it can do. Forget the lack of fancy branding - this is a very impressive player.

The Sears private label brands included Sears, SR Series (SR = Sears Roebuck), Proformance, and LXI Series.
I made CRTs at Panasonic for RCA, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, and more.
The chassis varied
