An actually well-writter "No-Kill Rule" is not the hero refusing to kill the villain no matter what. It's the hero refuring to kill the villain unless all of the other options to defeat the villain (knock them unconscious, bring them to prison, make them redeem themselves, etc., etc.) don't work out.
If the hero kills the villain indiscriminately, then the hero is a hypocrite, being just as homicidal as the villain they're supposed to be up against.
If the hero only uses killing as a last resort when everything else doesn't work, then the hero is a professional peacekeeper who's doing what they do with rationalism put into it.

Defending the status quo is definitely one of the most annoying.

One trope I hate is the hero gets a lecture but still does it anyway never understood it

To be fair in homelanders case, he was done as an evil superman when the idea was relatively new and not overdone like brightburn or something

I wouldn't count sentry as an evil superman. Sentry is a what if absolute power was given to a mentally ill person who genuinely wants to be better.

Another trope that has become odious recently is the sympathetic villain whose evil motives are justified while the hero is deconstructed to the point that everyone criticizes him for being a hero.

Marvel right now
"Spider-Man died! He will be back in a few issues they wanna give some time to Miles"

Nah we need a story where uncle Ben gets bitten by the spider and now needs to balance his old age, personal life and everything with his duties

I think that the "very quickly escalating timeline" trope is a problem. The first one starts off as a threat to a city, then the next one is a threat to the nation, and so on. That trope is essentially a series killer.

It's really not even batman's fault the joker is still alive. The whole point of his character is he's supposed to do the things the police cannot, like catch the villains. Everytime he hands the Joker over the the GCPD, the gouvernment is fully capable of giving him the electric chair, but they continue to let him escape then rely in Batman again. Batman genuinely would not care if someone else killed the Joker, he just wouldn't want the blood to be on his hands.

I like the way Daredevil’s no-kill is handled. It’s a part of his religion, and he feels like he’d be robbing someone from redemption. Spider-Man and Batman also have really good reasons not to kill.

The real problem is that this worlds don't seem to have a death sentence like in real life, nobody seems to protest for a death sentence , and no one tries to kill this people remember somebody is in charge of making the jokers food everyday

an evil speedster is a horrifying thought if they're fast enough (yes I know reverse flash exists)

Sentry has more powers than superman- he’s a way different character.

Should’ve said Hyperion, he’s legit a superman parody

“I can’t tell my family or friends about my secret identity, because somehow that will let my enemies know and it puts them in danger.”

That makes no sense. Like your loved ones are going to tell everyone in the city who the hero is.

I just love how MHA has none of these bad tropes. All Might, their Superman is literally the Symbol of Peace, there is no no-kill rule, no fridging, the story has a definitive start and end point  it's just beautiful

Edit: I also love how they did a good depiction of a no-kill rule by making the characters want to save the villains because they want to rehabilitate them/see that they can redeem themselves, and the only villains they actively killed were Twice (for being too dangerous) and All For One (because he's an irredeemable monster)

I disagree with that last one. Having a hero refuse to kill isn’t a problem. The problem is when writers go out of their way to make this principle look like a tragic flaw than a moral principle. Also in real life prison escapes are rare. But in fiction land they are so absurdly common that this is the effect.

heroes showing mercy or ignoring a character being bullied and only doing something when that character becomes a villain out of a desire for revenge

My problem with the no kill rule is that there are many ways to respect it and neutralize a guy but they are never tried. Like why are you handing him off to the officials and not keep him in your basement? Or invest your tonne of money into a prison for supervillians and put him there. Or try to rob him of superpowers if he has any. Or try to program him to never commit violence if you can do such a thing in the setting. Actually, the villian that gets brainwashed to not be able to commit violence but still wants to do his evil plans can be cool.
