I just realized, the kings at 1:50 are the burger king mascot, and the red king from clash royale.

14:20 the mongols used to raid nearby villages of forts, and instead of killing the villagers they would herd them inside the castle, overcrowding it massively and making sure their food stocks would run out way faster than anticipated

11:55 That is also how Lü Bu got captured by Cao Cao during the romance of three kingdoms. Lü Bu treated his men horribly, because he had only his beautiful wife Diochan on his mind during the siege of his city. Cao Cao ordered archers to shoot arrows with propaganda into the city over the walls, promising reward for Lü Bu's capture and surrender. And the morale was so low, his own men turned him over to the enemy.

There's a myth about Augsburg, that during a siege a baker used the last bit of grain to bake a loaf of bread, climbed the city walls, taunted the besieging army and threw the loaf to them. Which led to them thinking that the city had enough grain left, so they gave up the siege. There's even an old statue that is said to represent the baker, but sadly the earliest explanations for the statue that mention the myth are at least 100 years after the is supposed to have happened. The statue looks like it was put together with parts of different time periods, which would suggest that it could have been a art project of some mason that later got the myth attached to it.

In addition to everything is the sheer deviousness of castles, especially later ones - the ones built to funnel attackers into convenient kill boxes. The ones so fortified that any effort to take it by force would be pyrrhic at absolute best. The more time passed, the better the defenses, the less incentive to attack the armoured house of death.

The last part is pretty much what happens when the siege went too long, the attacker started to make sure that those are the consequences of resisting.

So we moved from lesson about siege to a psychopathic narrative about massacre that remind me how Rome destroyed Chartage, WELL THAT ESCALATED PRETTY QUICK.

4:33 siege towers purpose wasnt as much to be a shielded ladder, but to give higher ground to the attackers to be able to kill off anyone defending the walls before mounting. The defenders in response would build a tower on their wall to get even higher ground
