I don't know who you guys are, but as a lifelong FFVII fan I am SAT for this playthrough after this discussion. It's so fascinating how much you can know about this game without knowing what's actually happening in this game.

Never heard of this channel. 18 minutes into this video I subscribed. Have to see this playthrough.

“You’ve got Tifa and Aerith who both want to smooch Cloud. … Do you think it’s a three-way conflict?”

Garrett’s been browsing AO3 I see

It's not ruining yourself. It's willingly allowing yourself to grow with greater understanding

The clips from Cybernet with the lady voiceover was a massive, and entirely unexpected slap of nostalgia

I can already feel the pre-bans coming. Mods are sharpening their swords and readying their face paints, energy drinks and pizza rolls at hand.

I love these videos because they're always a hilarious mix of wild theories being somehow completely correct and others completely and utterly off base. It's fun to see what preconceived ideas all the zeitgeist osmosis knowledge gives you.

"Woman in the goo" is the new "dude in a room"

LMAO that Tenchi Muyo Toonami ad brought back way too many memories, lets go.

Kyle: See what materia is about

Me: Oh boy the fun I can see him having with it during his patch note sections of the playthrough :3

I am unreasonably excited for this playthrough. 🎉 Hope you enjoy. Thank you to the mods in advance, be as merciless as you please ❤

This game has one of my most distinct childhood memories because of how funny it was in hindsight and how heartbreaking it was in the moment.

So, when I was 8, I think, my dad bought a PS1 and FF7 for me for my birthday. I had played 2&3 (4&6) religiously and they were some of my favorite SNES games despite me being a dumb little goober, and I had been begging for him to let me play the newest one because my cousin had it and I’d seen him play it. So I booted it up, started playing, and he and I immediately realized we had a problem: I couldn’t save. We didn’t have a memory card. “Well no big deal,” my dad said, “just don’t turn off the game and I’ll run to Best Buy and pick one up when I’m doing my errands today.” So I played and I played and I played. I was most of the way through the first part of the game (vague to avoid spoilers) and there’s a boss that can only be hit by ranged attacks. I’d misunderstood a prompt right before it asking about unequipping the party’s materia and so my team had no materia equipped and only one of them could do any ranged damage. I ran out of potions trying to keep my team alive fighting that boss and died, about five hours into the game, maybe three minutes before my dad got back with the memory card.

If it were me, today, I wouldn’t have touched that game again for weeks. But I was a kid, so I just booted it right back up after crying for ten minutes and then proceeded to have my mind blown, experiencing a story I was definitely not mature enough to comprehend. But I could at least save now.

The only thing I can say that isn't spoiling anything is that if Barret were to have a catch phrase, it would be "There ain't no stoppin' this train we on!"

we 100% need MAX to be involved with this some how

As always, I LOVE the editing boys.

Never heard of your channel before, but I absolutely loved your discussion.  I literally wanted to bust through the wall like the Kool-Aid man and sit down to chat with you both and I'm very curious to see your honest reactions to the original.  Looking forward to it.  I played FF7 back in the day and getting to see the Weapons in 14 was also one of my favorite trials, though I will warn you the setup for them is pretty different in the original.  To be direct with your final statement, there are a lot of different camps that like FF7 for many different reasons, but I think that's what makes the game so impressive.  It's a game that has SO MUCH content in regard to, mini games, optional characters, amazing story, and a hidden romance system that's far more subtle than the modern "keep giving the girl you like her favorite gift and she will remember that" system. I only learned how in depth it goes a year or so ago and it kind of broke my brain.  Hope you guys enjoy.  (Also Tenchi Muyo is the best harem and I will stand by that).

I just started 7 for the first time too.

I noticed as a 14 player for 10+ years, that so much is from FF7. I am a what feels like...1/5th through the game, hopefully I can stay just ahead of you guys and we can see a lot of it at the same time!

Not such a fan of ATB, I prefer actual turn based. But I can definitely see the roots of a lot of later RPGs I have played alright in it.

Welp never seen you guys before but instant sub to follow your journey you lucky bastards, it will not disappoint.

I’ve never seen this channel before but you came up in my feed so here I am! This was such an entertaining video and it’s not often I get to kind of see a first time reaction to this. I hope I’ll be able to catch these streams, it sounds like it’ll be a good time!
