Making friends in Norway isn't always straightforward, people here tend to have their close circles set early, and breaking into that as an outsider takes a different approach than I was used to back in the UK. In this video I'm sharing how I made my first Norwegian friend, what actually worked, and a few things I'd do differently if I could go back.

Here's what I did to meet and make friends when I moved to Norway:

00:46 The stereotype that Norwegians don't want friends (and why it's not true)
01:13 Making my first Norwegian friend
02:46 The different groups of people you'll meet in Oslo: internationals and immigrants, lifelong locals, and Norwegians from out of town
04:45 How to actually find Norwegians who are open to new friendships (Facebook groups, clubs, approaching people first, and yes, Snapchat)
07:47 How Janteloven affects friendships here
09:19 Dealing with the language barrier
11:37 Internationals or Norwegians, who's actually easier to befriend?
12:46 The early mistakes I made that pushed people away
13:32 The one surprising trick that actually worked
14:23 A quick recap of everything I learned

If you're a Brit or any immigrant living in Norway and struggling to make friends, I hope this gives you a realistic, encouraging look at what's actually possible.
