Ben jumped out of those blocks like a cat.

Great commentary from David Coleman and Ron Pickering.

Dwight Stones/NBC  - Ben Johnson 30.Aug'87:
"You said you'd run 9.85 and you ran 9.83"
"Yah, I don't talk shit."

It’s not johnson reaction time, it’s his acceleration that’s superior.

Lewis didn't congratulate him he told him "you false started"

Great race remember it well

6:42 minutes carl to Ben Johnson " Congratulations I know you took drugs"😂😂

I'm nothing going to change Ben 🎉

Friggin awesome.  Carl Lewis so cocky.  Incredible to see him brought down a few pegs.  Incredible.  Of course he was juiced, I know.  But Lewis was on shit too.  Fortunate for him, the US had the means to cover anything up……

No Johnson didn't false start they set the blocks at .110 reaction Johnson reacted at .129. I think he reacted at .135 at the 1988 Olympics and beat Lewis by more .13 to .10 here in Rome.

Besides that I friggin hate Carl Lewis just was a cocky SOB that according to many of the other sprinters they hated.

Ben beat Lewis a year earlier,  just shows Ben still the better athlete...

Look just before the gun ben was definitely rocking pretty sure that equates to a jump but obviously not enough to be picked up by the sensors. But the tech back then no where near as reliable now.

Der Mann auf Bahn 1 hat den besten Start führt nach 10m.

Highly likely they were all on steroids or HGH or some form. Back then, only urine samples were used in drug tests, blood only came into it post the Sydney Olympics in 2000. They could avoid detection pretty easily with medical assistance. Lewis lost the race at the start but Johnson went further away from him in the first 40, only to be pegged back fractionally in the last 30. One of the great 100’s of all time, irrespective of drugs. Both men in the top ten ever.

Ben Johnson looked relatively slim here.  Amazing how much bulk he built up over the year until that infamous race the next year.  Sadly, I personally believe he didn’t need the steroids - his start and foot speed gave him an advantage.  And I’ve never seen a start like that (and likely never will).

Johnson would smoke bolt in his prime, his starts were incredible led from start tofinish.

Three Jamaicans born

Definitely not a false start.  He just SMOKIFIED lLewis and everyone else.
