We are into the final push of drilling now, with just five or six days to go, and in this episode we run through the logistics of the home straight, the rising seed rates, and a hiccup that has held us up a little. We also sit down with our agronomist Henry for a proper crop walk, and it is fascinating. He explains how a well timed dose of nutrition has brought the drought hit oilseed rape back to life almost overnight, and gives a sobering, honest account of the flea beetle problem, with tests now suggesting up to 80% of the population is resistant to the insecticide, and the real risk of losing the crop over Christmas.
There is a genuine industry issue we get stuck into as well. With sprayers covering 80 hectares on a single tank, the poor labelling on chemical containers, where different products share the same colours, is a real and costly risk, and we make the case for why it has to change. We also battle a stubborn container transfer job and keep clearing the new yard.
A big thank you to Horsch, who drove a part through the night from Germany to keep a drill running. From the home straight of drilling to an honest look at the challenges of the crop, this is another look behind the scenes of a modern farming business.

Keep making the great farming content, always a great insight into such a big operation you run and how efficient James and the team run everything. 👍
