The plant species you select for your garden is a critical decision influencing whether wildlife can thrive. In this talk, Dr. Desiree L. Narango will discuss her research evaluating which plant species and traits are best for supporting interactions with pollinating insects and songbirds. She will also provide information and online tools you can use to make informed decisions and contribute to community science.

Dr.  Narango is a conservation scientist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies in White River Junction, VT. Her research program focuses on understanding how global change impacts bird and insect populations and identifying biodiversity conservation solutions in human-dominated habitats.

Dr. Narango co-authored the seminal research study (with Doug Tallamy and Peter Marra) which found that Carolina chickadees require a landscape with 70 percent native plants to keep their population steady.  She also collaborated with Heather Holm to create the “Soft Landings/Keystone Plants” infographics.
