The most underrated part of this movie is Hans Zimmer’s score- it became the template for every video game depicting Middle East conflict for the next 20 years.

I LOVE Black Hawk Down, but I was shocked to hear Tarantino talk so highly about it. I was half expecting to hear him tear it apart when I clicked on this video. What a nice surprise.

When Jaimie Lannister dies and the only guy left defending the injured pilot informs him that it’s just the two of them and he’ll be outside. That was brutal because you know they’re doomed.

"air force helicopter guys"

Come on, man.

Absolutely no Tom Sizemore slander will be tolerated, the guy stole scenes from De Niro and Hanks in two of the best movies ever made.

Mark and Spud became US Army Rangers after kicking heroin in Glasgow.

BHD(2001) is closer to Apocalypse Now (1979) than to 2026. Weird.

Eric Bana’s little monologue is so great too. Epic film

Electrifying performance from Tom Sizemore.

Two of the greatest heroes of our time, Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart

In terms of pure filmmaking and directing, this is Ridley Scott’s masterpiece. Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator are elite, but the directing in BHD is some of the best of all time. How he filmed all of that relentless chaos and violence and made it easy to follow while simultaneously making it visually stunning in an appropriate way. Brilliant movie. Glad he got a Best Director nomination at the Oscars that year but he or Peter Jackson or David Lynch should have won over Ron Howard for A Beautiful Mind.

It's one of my favourites from Ridley Scott.

I watched this on a huge cinema screen with probably 2 or 3 other people in the place at most. It was so immersive and visceral I actually felt quite unsettled walking out afterwards. Great film

He nails it.  BlackHawk Down is superb in every way.  It's Ridley Scott's "magnum opus."  I think it surpasses everything else he's done, which is amazing considering Alien, Black Rain, Gladiator and Blade Runner are all really, really great movies.

Former Army Ranger here.  I personally knew some of these guys...and the really interesting part of the film to me is how well the actors portrayed their actual real-life counterparts - down to the accents and the dip between the cheek and gum (keeps you awake).  I was not there - but what Ive been told by those who were, the film is pretty damn accurate.

Had the pleasure to watch this in cinema back then

Always said BHD is criminally underrated. Brilliant movie. Joe Strummers rendition of Minstrel Boy for the end credits is soul stirring too.

I've watched this movie a few times, but let myself be totally immersed in the story and experience.  I never sat back and considered the practical mechanics of actually making the movie.  All the helicopters, the vehicles, the weapons, and all the extras my God hundreds of extras.  The whole thing is a masterclass in precision planning and storyboarding.

Yeah, hearing Tarantino comment on epic films is pretty exciting.  You really do get his video-store vibe even to this day when he gets excited about the details and the way he builds it to a broader perspective on the whole of Hollywood style storytelling is a tour de force of artistic scrutiny.

It has some of my favorite music in any movie.
