Sleeping Beauty – Full Audiobook | a slow fairy tale retelling for sleep

A king and queen wait years for a child. When their daughter comes at last, the whole kingdom is asked to the christening feast. Gifts are laid over her cradle one by one, until a fairy who was left out speaks a curse about a spindle, and every spinning wheel in the land is carried away and burned. Years later, on a quiet afternoon, the princess climbs to a small room at the top of an old tower. There she finds an old woman at her wheel, and a long sleep settles over the castle, over the cooks and the horses and the doves on the roof, while a hedge of thorns grows up around them all.

This is the tale of Sleeping Beauty you already love, expanded for sleep. It's a slow, faithful retelling that keeps every familiar turn and lingers in the quiet rooms in between, soft spoken and gently softened so nothing jolts you awake.

🌒 ABOUT THIS BOOK
─────────────────────────
Sleeping Beauty is one of the oldest fairy tales we have, told by Perrault and by the Brothers Grimm. It's the story of a princess, a spindle, and a castle that sleeps for a hundred years behind a wall of briar roses. This retelling stays close to the tale you know, but it takes its time. It spends longer on the feast, the tower stair, the still kitchens and the roses climbing the walls as the seasons turn outside. Frances Thorne writes long, atmospheric retellings where the castle, the forest and the turning year feel like living things. Here that means a whole sleeping castle you can wander through.

A gentle old-world fairy tale about a castle that waits a hundred years.
