Samsung WW90T534DAN Washing Machine FAQ Page π https://how-to-repair.com/blogs/frequ...
Today we are looking at a video sent in by a customer named Chris, whose two-year-old Samsung washing machine is making a terrible, loud juddering noise on the spin cycle. In this video, I explain how a noisy spin cycle is often caused by a warped drum, a loose counterweight, or a cracked aluminium spider at the back of your washing machine drum. We dive deep into why these metal spiders are snapping and turning into a chalky white powder much faster these days.
It all comes down to a simple chemistry reaction. When you mix a stainless steel drum, a bare aluminium spider, a steel shaft, and cold soapy water, you accidentally create a battery inside your washing machine. This causes the weaker aluminium to literally rot away through a process called galvanic corrosion. Modern laundry habits are actually speeding this up. Using liquid detergents and constantly running low-temperature eco washes creates a nasty layer of damp sludge that coats the back of your drum. This means that the metal is being attacked by this electrical battery effect twenty-four hours a day, even when the machine is turned completely off.
To protect your appliance, I highly recommend ditching the liquid soap and switching to a good old-fashioned washing powder. Powder has active oxygen bleach and a mild abrasive texture that safely scrubs the drum clean. You also need to run a hot wash between sixty and ninety degrees every single week to melt away the grease, grime, and leftover detergent. Finally, always leave your washing machine door and the soap drawer wide open when you finish your laundry so the inside can completely dry out and stop that battery effect in its tracks.
I also share my honest thoughts on how greedy manufacturers need to stop building planned obsolescence into their machines. They could easily coat these aluminium parts, make them smoother, or use better materials like carbon fiber to stop this corrosion from happening. Luckily, Samsung uses a splittable drum in this model, so Chris will actually be able to open the drum and replace the broken spider rather than throwing the whole machine away.
