So it’s like Harry Potter
Point out some bad stuff in the government and then join it and do not fix it.

Even today, with the shittiness of everything going on, I choose to believe that people are good. As such, I HATE movies that say 'everything is fucked unless these super special people act because humanity it inherently terrible'. Like, it's putting itself on a pedestal of a beacon of hope but is actually incredibly bleak and pessimistic, and in doing that it's disgustingly hypocritical.

Honestly, I thought Tomorrowland isn't as underrated as many people believe so, and I believe that Meet The Robinsons is the superior Tomorrowland movie than the actual Tomorrowland movie.

It’s ironic, that a movie of a girl falling for a really well made ad, used that very same ad to make real life people fall for the movie ad as well

All I could think of while you described the film is "this is a Disneyland tie-in. this is a Disneyland tie-in. they want to boost the mythos of the Tomorrowland bit in Disneyland."

This is why I prefer Hayao Miyazaki depiction of humanity. From Nausicaa to mononoke.
People are violent, selfish and destroy environment but there is also goodness and beauty worth fighting for

This is sounding more and more like Atlas Shrugged For Children

i remember hearing the central premise of tomorrowland's "world where scientists don't have to deal with any red tape" and at age 11 thinkin "hell yeah that sounds awesome" and then remembering it a decade later with "oh that's not..."

What’s especially annoying about movies like this is that they preach “Super Special People will save the world” as if it weren’t those same Super Special People that put the world in danger in the first place!

In this movie, a scientist builds a Pessimism Machine that saps everyone’s will and then flees to Tomorrowland to escape it, abandoning millions of blameless people, just like how in real life rich people pollute the Earth just to write up plans to colonize Mars, leaving the rest of us to die.

"Dreamers" sounds like a privileged euphemism, and uncomfortably implies a natural hierarchy based on how "special" you are

So... Disney unironically did an adaptation of Ayn Rand's ideas... I mean it tracks...

I remember feeling disappointed with the contrast between the solid, enticing trailer and the sense of loneliness the movie left.
Thank you for the compromise on your videos. Lot's of love, dear!

I thought this was gonna be a video about a movie I never watched but GODDAMN I DID WATCH AND FORGET ABOUT THIS MOVIE

What if Tomorrowland was treated more like a special university? You go there to learn and about your prefered craft, along with any other skills you want to learn. Then you go back to earth to teach and inspire others.

I think its worth noting that the director, Brad Bird, also directed The Incredibles films, which are all about how the only ones who can save the world are “people who are born special”. But it comes off better since they technically were born with super powers and were banned from helping people where they were discriminated by ‘normal people’ and constantly put down. The main villain of the first film, Sydrome, is a character with no powers who wants to be special and for a genius kid who made his own jetpack/boots, he’s already pretty special. But he takes Mr. Incredible’s rejection too personally and resorts to killing superheros and wanting to sell his inventions public to make everyone special so that no one will be.

I don’t think Bird is necessarily an objectivist like Ayn Rand, but these films show that he likes stories about special people being the heroes against the ‘normal villains’ and a dull boring world kinda telling

I remembered originally thinking the plot was going to be a little similar to meet the robinsons, where this optimistic future would be at risk if the main character didnt confront the issues in their own timeline.

I still kind of wish thats what we got tbh. It just feels like the writers tried biting off more than they could chew.

the neoliberal mind prison struck again. ironic that the creators of a movie about how people stopped dreaming are themselves incapable of dreaming up a better system
