Thank you for this video, and for the whole series. People might find it entertaining to know that in its days as a power station, this building was the work of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the same architect who designed Battersea Power Station (now a multi-use retail and cultural space in west London, which featured on the cover of Pink Floyd's Animals album), Liverpool Cathedral, and the iconic red telephone boxes that you still see all around the UK.
Ways of Seeing is the book that accompanied a famous and critically acclaimed series of four documentaries the artist and critic John Berger made in 1972 for the BBC.

I always hesitate before watching these videos,most are self serving and seldom about the art. However, your knowledge and professional approach was refreshing. And thank you for taking the time to explain what the art was about. Also, need to point out the most important part, “ no distracting people walking in front of the work. “ sooo , much thanks.

You described the Rothko experience perfectly. When I lived in London I would regularly go to the Tate to spend time in that gallery, it was my sanctuary, it transported me out of the London madness into this out of this world experience. Those works would consume me completely as I went into them. It was like Rothko said. "The people who weep before my paintings are having the same religious experience as I had when I painted them".

There's an interview with Marcel Duchamp shortly before his death in 1968. It was shown on BBC and is in English (interviewer Joan Bakewell) and is available on Youtube, as is also the 'censored' section.

I have to admit that I don't have an artistic mind, but I can really appreciate contemporary art once I understand what the artist is saying. Some people say that all art has to be understandable by everyone, but I don't agree with that. What impresses me is the cleverness in the way many artists are getting their message across, regardless if I can fully understand it or not. It all depends on how good the explanation is.

I've seen a lot of Warhols in museums around the world -- but Corban finally explained him to me, at home! Just goes to show, travel is more for the fun than any learning involved.

Place to visit, Dulwich Picture Gallery. Fantastic collection in a fantastic gallery! By the way, The Sky Garden is free although you do need to book in advance.

The view from the cafe seems very nice. I thought the admission to the Sky Garden is also free, you just need to book a ticket online.

Thanks for the video. It is an interesting place to visit and i did enjoy the recent Emin exhibition. It does have a wonderful terrace for looking out across london

Damien Hirst’s retrospective in 2012 was my favourite exhibition I’ve ever seen at Tate Modern! Been to so many brilliant exhibitions there! Love the permanent collection too!

Love the building its impressive in itself. Grumpus describes me when viewing the art when I last visited, many years ago. That said, it looks like the rooms are much brighter and better presented now. Some idiot left a urinal on display next to a banana taped to the wall...

The Rothko room is a truly unique place for those paintings, but there’s a lot more history behind how the Tate acquired them , and where he originally wanted them to be in situ , as he admired Turner’s paintings so much ?

i am loving your vids since i discovered your channel a few weeks ago. this is no exception. i find modern art somewhat confusing, but realising you need to know the context or story connected to the piece has been eye-opening, so thank you for that.

Another great tour! Lost count how many times I've been to the TM, it has such an inspiring feel when you walk through it and as you said, the way they theme the galleries really does challenge and stimulate your mind. And I could spend (and have spent) many a happy hour perusing that book shop! One suggestion I have for a future tour is Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, for their amazing collection of Pre-Raphaelites and Old Masters, plus an incredible Edwardian tearoom.
