What was it really like to live, work and dance in Ibiza in 2001?

Carrie Stevens was right in the middle of it.

After arriving on the island, she became a club dancer at Es Paradis, before being poached by Eden and eventually becoming Head Dancer. This was an Ibiza of packed dancefloors, podium dancers, workers crammed into apartments, club parades through San Antonio, morning bars and after-hours sessions that could disappear well into the next day.

In this episode, Carrie takes us back inside that world. We talk about the reality of being an Ibiza dancer, the incredible atmosphere inside Es Paradis, life at Eden, the notorious Garden of Eden, Ibiza worker culture, Judgement Sundays, surviving the winter and why the island felt so different before social media.

Carrie also tells us about one of the happiest moments of her life: dancing above a packed Es Paradis as the shutters opened and Café Del Mar played.

Out there in 98 and 99. Trance was at it's best then!

I remember before going out there, discussing the clubs, the DJ's, the tunes. It was iconic before even getting out there. It wasn't about portraying having a good time by sticking it on social media. It was my time with my friends and no 'like' or 'comment' on social media will ever change that.

July 2001 was my first “proper” Ibiza trip. Aged 17, went with 3 lads I worked with at the time who were all 19. Arrived on a Sunday at 10:30am all hyped for Judgement Sunday. When it came to going out they said they were too tired so I went out on my own and never looked back since.

Love her story about Es Paradis. I remember we went to Ibiza in 2000, dropped our bags in and went straight to Es Paradis and Cafe Del Mar was playing was epic and a great start to the holiday.

Came across this pod by chance and it was such an easy listen. Really enjoyed hearing you both talk about the fun and madness of Ibiza.

I’ve been lucky enough to experience a few opening and closing parties over the years, but I can’t imagine what it must have been like to actually live there for such a long period of time.

I lived over there for 3yrs, '95 '96 and '97., and b4 that was livin' in Tenerife '93, '94, Tenerife was ace but Ibiza blew it out the water, Ku, Space, Amnesia, Pacha, Es paradis and "Pepe"...top bloke, always used to let us in free when he knew we lived there, The star cafe was opposite Es paradis in '95 '96 and went up the road nr the petrol station in '97 and changed its name to the star bar......we used to be in there all day till the next nite after the clubs, Juan the owner was a legend......great days man, anyone who's lived there knows how great it was.....😊😊😊❤❤❤❤

So right about the social media changing everything. I wish I had more photos when I worked out there in 2002.

On the other hand if any of my antics were captured on film I could be very easily blackmailed or forced out of the grown up jobs we have to do now.

First visit for me was as a child in 1986, staying in PDB. First visit as an adult in 1997 to San An, that’s when Ibiza cast its magic spell. I’m heading back over again in a few weeks time which will be the tenth consecutive year. Yes it’s changed, but Ibiza is the best place in the world ❤🌞🏝

I think a lot of it is you would be younger, no responsibilities, music was still regenerating (it is dead now) and no phones and social media. However i could still go now and have a great time. Ship inn and all the scousers were amusing in the 2000's.
