Jane Austen’s Church & Village | Chawton, Hampshire

Haunts and Jaunts Adventures

Join me as I explore Chawton in Hampshire, the village where Jane Austen lived and wrote during the final years of her life.

I visit St Nicholas Church, Jane Austen’s parish church, before exploring the churchyard and discovering the graves of members of the Austen family. I’ll also take a look at the exterior of Jane Austen’s famous home in Chawton.

There’s plenty of history here, from Jane Austen and her family to the fascinating story of the village itself — and even a connection to another novelist, Caroline Glyn.

If you enjoy exploring historic churches, old graveyards, villages, literary history and fascinating places around England, come along for the journey.

Thanks for watching and supporting Haunts and Jaunts Adventures. ❤️

I visited Jane Austen’s house several years ago on a trip from Wilmington Delaware to friends in Sussex UK. The village and the church are lovely. Thank you for taking me along!

Thank you so much. Jane Austen, she was my teenage inspiration! An author I admire so much! And such a pretty village... The graves of our writer's mother and sister are moving.

As a lover of Jane Austin''s novels, I found this very interesting. I'm so glad that the fire didn't destroy everything, and although it's not the complete original, it's still such a beautiful church. Very interesting history! Thank you so much for sharing!
PS: I love blackberry and apple anything!💐

It truly is a wonderful church, I have visited many times.
The church in Steventon, Hampshire, where Jane Austen’s father was a rector, is also worth a visit.
