I just want an exceptional streamer with that screen.

Jay, thank you for the in-depth review, decided to pick up a DMP-A8, first album I streamed was from Apple Music, Alice In Chains MTV unplugged, 90’s …blew me away, paired to an Anthem MRZ-1140 playing 2 channel stereo on Klipsch RF7-III speakers with Klipsch sub, the quality and depth of sound was amazing. I’ve listened to this album multiple times in multiple formats. This was by far of the highest quality yet. Can’t believe I’m streaming this!

Great analysis Jay.
With all the features it offers and their ability to respond to customer requests it is a good value.
Please make a more in depth video on features

@rogerschofield3324 2 years ago

Thank you for your excellent reviews. Yes I would like a video on setting up the advanced settings.

I loved the section on DSP and PEQ. A future video on the expanded capabilities of the A8 would be good to hear as many of the features, filters, slopes, setup, come with no instructions. I love my A8, and I'd encourage others to better understand it. I am apprehensive to use DSP as I'm old school and tend to run everything flat - but that's because I don't fully understand it or know what negitives these things may bring to the aready great balanced sound. Thank you for a great insite to this streamer, DAC, preamp; I'd love to hear more ....

Awesome video Jay. Definitely warrants a more in depth video on features. This is on the shopping list

I was looking for a network streamer/transporter with a big display like that back in 2015 and was surprised to see how thin the market was. It was difficult enough to find any streamers at all. Eversolo DMP-6 (and DMP-8) is what I was expecting to find back then. I guess the hifi manufacturers are slow in their evolution. Anyway, better late than never!

Good video. I hope enough people want you to do a more in-depth video on the dump-a8. Thanks 👍

@Smfins 2 years ago

Yes! Please make a separate video about the peq and other features! Great video! I’m picking mine up today

Definitely like the more standard size to the component. Personally I like the more traditional pseudo rack mount size to match with my other components such as my CD player. The PEQ is a game-changer from the 6 model. A pre-amp is much more flexible with a tone control, but I'd like an option to with from the PEQ to the more simple and traditional bass and treble only too. The fact it down samples to use tone equalization is not impressive however. I'm still thinking they need to add a line-out sub output. Still no analog line-level inputs. Makes it clunky to use with an outboard phono stage and turntable. This cuts into the value as using it for a "system" pre-amp. The addition of a couple of dedicated digital ins shows the company does listen and, perhaps, they'll read my observations here and work on a few things like the line ins and sub out. Also, the tone control being downsampled is a bit of mystery as they could have done this better. I think they've updated this unit with a newer updated unit so I guess I should have checked that unit out (I haven't as I wasn't aware until I had already written the above). Because of my perceived likes and this units short comings I would not buy this unit and I am still looking.

Thanks for the thorough review of the A8. Agreed it's a feature packed thing. I am also super interested in the Athena so good to see some comparison just in terms of preamp quality. One thing that confused me - I think you mentioned A8 can adjust volume granularity (0.5-3db) but if the volume control is fully analog (?) with R2R, how is that possible?

Also, if I may say so, would be great to get a review of the Athena. No-one has reviewed it on YouTube and since you have one, you should do it :)

Thanks Jay, great video as always. Agreed, the A8 is a nice addition, but did wish when I saw it that they had added a larger screen, but then I'm sure that's a cost driven decision and personally, to keep the price where it's at and gain all the features over the A6 ... I'll live with the same screen. Thanks again. Note: Larger screen probably coming with the DMP-A8 Master Edition ... preordered the A8 in December, scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Feb 5th), we'll see how long until the A8 Master Edition is announced! ;o)

Great review, would like another in depth one on EQ.

@powermod6772 1 year ago (edited)

I wish they would make a pure streamer version of it with the DSP features and only digital outputs. Many audiophiles do already have a better DAC. In this case, the DAC and Preamp of the Eversolo are not required and make it unnecessarily expensive.

What an excellent review. Keep up the good work 🎉

@john57125 2 years ago

That's awesome, I'm happy with my Cambridge CXNv2 but if the DMP-A8 was out when I was shopping for a streamer, I definitely would have gone for this lol

@matthewhoult1350 2 years ago

Great review Jay I see that Ever Solo have removed the HDMI audio outout socket and therefore the ability to stream Multi Channel audio (DSD64 & PCM 192) directly to an AV Surround Sound Processor. Also I can't see that the unit is ROON Ready as this stage maybe this will be implemented in the field via firmware update I think ROON have a huge backlog and are the bottleneck here.
