Really nice to listen to a ring announcer simply state who is fighting and not put on a big show like those of today. And Don Dumphy knows what to interject, and when to keep quiet---unlike the announcers of today who can't take a breath.
That constant fast left from Clay did Daniels in. It wasn’t showy and the announcer hardly mentions it, but 7 rounds of that left is what cut him and hurt him.
In his early years, Ali had a technique of flicking his punches at the moment of impact which he said was "like a fly swatter". He won a lot of fights with cuts that way.
I am 6 foot 2 and 194 pounds and people in today's age say I am skinny. In the 1960s I would have been the size of a heavyweight boxer but in this era of obesity I am considered a skinny man
Don Dunphy was the best boxing announcer I ever heard, better than any who came after him. Like others here, I grew up watching the Saturday night fights with my brothers and our dad. I wasn't shaving yet, but I sure learned a lot about Gillette razor blades.
Daniel's punches were so crazy . He swung many times wrong and could have hurt Clay. Back of head hitting also. Glad they stopped it tho for the cut on his eye. Safety first
About 10 years ago this kid was talking about Muhammed Ali being the greatest fighter ever. Even better than Mike Tyson. I being older said to him that I remember Cassius Clay defeating Sonny Liston and he said to me Muhammed Ali would have kicked Cassius Clays ass. I looked him and he was serious. I said kid that's impossible. He said "Oh yeah I bet he would have". I just laughed and walked away.
Fun fact, some of you boxing fans I'm sure know this. Billy Daniels was Ali's barber a few years later. The man quit boxing and started his own barber business. I think after Ali beat him, he just said screw it, I don't blame him.
It didn't look like he was hurt enough to have the fight stopped, but Ali (Clay) was scoring a lot more. It should have been continued at least another round.
