A Matjes Fischbrötchen is a classic Northern German coastal staple that you can think of as the local equivalent of a quick deli sandwich or a hot dog, traditionally enjoyed on the go near harbors and beaches. It consists of a crusty, white wheat roll (Brötchen) that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, filled with a very specific type of herring called Matjes. Unlike typical pickled herring, Matjes comes from young, immature fish that are cured in a mild brine and matured using their own natural enzymes, giving the fish an incredibly tender, buttery texture and a surprisingly mild, savory flavor. The sandwich is served cold and kept simple, traditionally topped only with crisp raw onions and sometimes a few pickle slices, creating a perfect balance of salty, savory fish, sharp crunch, and hearty bread.

"Nordsee" is Legend. ❤❤

he is german, she is merican. the end is mettigel, raw pork, german classic, tastes very well and has alot of protein!

Mettigel (minced pork shaped like a hedgehog)—raw pork is something almost all Americans shy away from because they are afraid of getting sick. We have been eating it for generations, and nobody here gets sick from it. It is prepared fresh on the day of sale. If there is any left over, the remainder is mixed with ground beef to make Frikadellen (meat patties), which are then sold in bread rolls. The Mett (raw minced pork) is seasoned with salt, pepper, and sometimes other spices; it is spread onto a buttered roll and topped with onions. Don't be grossed out—you don't have to eat it unless you're feeling truly brave. We shape the mixture into a hedgehog just for fun for special occasions!

She is from America and has been living in Germany with her German husband for years. Lecker means delicious (tastes good). These small shrimp are known as *Krabben*; they are about a third smaller than regular shrimp and are caught in the North Sea. The North Sea is located in the north of Germany. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive because of their small size, but they have a more intense flavor than regular shrimp.

10:49 she said lecker, it's German for tasty. Dutch also say lekker but it's used in any occasion meaning good. In South Africa some speak Africaans which is a dutch derived language (as you know). But I don't think it's a slang word.

18:00 mettbrötchen, Elite Food

Matjes is herring that has been cured in salt. We also have herring pickled in vinegar, which we call Bismarckhering*. *Matjes isn't to everyone's taste! If you like sauerkraut, you’ll probably like Bismarckhering too; it has a similar tart flavor and is often sold with a gherkin. If you're a beginner, though, I’d suggest trying Bratfisch instead. It’s like a large fish finger served with tartar sauce—you’ll almost certainly enjoy that.

The fish roll is a matjes roll. Matjes is pickled herring and is so full of flavour that it doesn’t need any sauce. For me, it’s one of my favourite fast food dishes.

No, I would never pay $17 for a döner. It's already expensive enough when you pay 7 euros for a döner box (a cardboard box with döner meat, vegetables, sauce, and fries). Back in 2010, you could still get a döner in Berlin for almost €3.50.
10:00 (11:12) That's matjes. That's fish. Especially here in northern Germany, where it's practically the traditional regional dish—it's a fish sandwich. Matjes, herring, salmon, fried fish, shrimp, fish patties, and other varieties. Nordsee the restaurant founded in Bremen 1896.
But the headquarters is here in our city. It was spun off from parts of two other companies: what is now Deutsche See (fresh fish processing) and Frozen Fish International (frozen foods—fish sticks), which is part of Iglo.

17 Dollars for a Kebab?! Last time I had a Kebab in Germany, I paid 6€ but I think now, it costs about 8 or 9 bucks.j

12:58 Matjes Brötchen is the best. It looks raw but it isn't. It's easy to bite and without any fish bones.

The video you watched had something wrong: Leberkäse has to have some liver in it. If not it is Fleischkäse (Fleisch = meat). But over the last 30 years this distinction got lost more and more in the german language. The "käse" (cheese) part of the word comes not from actual cheese, but from the form it is made in, the typical form of meat loafs.
The thing at the end is "Mett", which is freshly minced raw pork. It is usually eaten on a fresh breadroll with some salt and pepper and some fresh onions on it. And YES, due to strict german regulations it is safe to eat it. I eat this since childhood days and never once had a problem. Actually I ate it the day before yesterday. 😃

They are all good but I guess pickled herring sandwiches aren't everyone's taste.

P.S.: 10:48 She said "lecker" which is German for delicious/tasty. The Dutch word is lekker and the same in Afrikaans - that's what you probably heard. But it has more meanings in Dutch and Afrikaans.

Lecker -> Tasty

There are so many bad döner places in germany 😅
For a good döner everything has to be allways fresh!except for when you are drunk then it doesnt really matters.
this seems to be a standard too high for a lot of german Kebab places

mettbrötche are a something normal around here. but i am gonna be honest.. the last time ive seen or heard about mettigel at parties or gatherings... was in the mid 80s. and it was allready rare then.

In Germany, you can get out of the habit of being vegan.🤣😂

There is a difference between fast food and junk food still both can be fast 😊

Looks like you have to spend some time in Germany. You'll love the food.
