The best villain of the Daniel Craig era

Mads Mikkellson so such a handsome dude. He barely had any lines in Casino Royale and yet he had such an incredible presence on screen.

This guy is an iconic Bond villain.

4:39 That's exactly it. Le Chiffre was overconfident and didn't consider the possibility that his plan could fail.

I find the detail that Le Chiffres´ eye got disabled by the organisation fascinating.
Basically, he failed them one time beforehand already, so they took his left eye as punishment.

Now, that he failed them again, not only by losing the money, but actually by breaking their trust, he had nowhere left to run.

Le Chiffre was the perfect villain to start the modern era of Bond. He's not a mustached villain in a volcano lair looking to take over the world. He's not even the head honcho of the organization. He's a greedy mid-tier baddie who just wants to make as much money as possible and fund terror. He gambles with his clients money who are also very dangerous people. The whole movie is karmic justice of him getting what he deserves, not just from Bond, but from the people he works for.

Great video on one of the better villains of the Bond series.

I wouldn't say evil intent, but yes. He is a "less is more" villain. No extravagance or lasers coming out his arse, just an animal need to live. He is driven by his need to survive the situation he's found himself in. Desperation makes people more prone to extreme lengths which we see in Le Chiffre's character, there's little he won't do to get what he wants if it means he'll come out unharmed. he is by no means a good person, but nothing we see from him in this film is cruelty for cruelty's sake. Not active malice due to his own sadism, it's desperation driving him to the acts he commits. He is reaching the end of his string in terms of debt piling up, whilst it may have originally been greed that got him surrounded by such violent people, it isn't his motivation by the end. It's a carnal, unfiltered need to survive. Unflinching in those he kills or maims to live. He lacks any regard for others if it means he survives.

I honestly think towards the end of the film he would have surrendered to MI5 and revealed all his secrets if it meant he'd live. However at the end he was far too backed into a corner, panicking and  not thinking clearly due to his distress. When he was trying to get the password from Bond, all his focus was getting the money that would provide him an out.

One of my favorite villains, but I laughed at the eye closeup and being reminded of the bloody tears did me in completely

One of my favorite villains in any film. Right there with Darth Vader and Hans Landa.

Le Chiffre was supposed to be husky in the book, but the actor still nailed it regardless.

Another awesome Bond villain 👍
