Wonderful playthrough! I'm really looking forward to a full game soon. Thank you, Paul and friends.

Might pick this up as my first Forest Shuffle.

I love dartmoor, but this looks like a faster and more colorful version of that one. Definitely picking this one up when it’s available

Excellent stuff as always Paul.

I've played them all. Looking forward to this one. Everyone else in my gaming group owns the other editions, so I'm likely to pick this up.

Looks nice this!

I played a friend's copy yesterday before seeing this video, and think it is my favorite version so far. (I have all the forest shuffle issued previously except for the Exmoor expansion.) it was very exciting scoring 90 points the eagle, bear, and elk.

@41:12 when Mark played the hemlock, one card should have been added to the clearing 😉

I've heard that Forest Shuffle: Smoky Mountains is in Alpha on BGA.

I really like Forest Shuffle, it is a big hit in my family. Though I only ever played the original (with expansions).
There must be some mulligan rule in this variant because if your first 10 cards happen to be all neither trees nor river cards you would not ever be able to play any card and the game ends for you before it started.
In the original there is a mulligan rule, if you don't have a tree in your starting hand you can draw 6 new cards. Though we don't ever use that rule because you can always play any card as sprout, thus it is not possible to get stuck.

I liked this variant, I didn't realize that the landscape cards were introduced in Dartmoor. I thought they were completely new for this version. I thought they worked quite well. I seem to struggle with Forest Shuffle to get matches for the cards I want to play to trigger the bonuses.

Smoky Mountain is coming to Board Game Arena. It is currently in Beta, and I scored 291 points in my first 2-player game.

It is entirely possible to get 500 points or more in a two-player game, playing by the rules, including removing the correct number of cards at the start. It depends on the play style. My wife and I do everything possible to avoid wiping cards from the clearing. As a result, nearly every card gets played and scored. I scored over 600 points in a game where the last winter card was at the very bottom of the deck.

Looking forward to this. Love the game, so three versions is ok by me.

Paul is not that good at this game, as seen by the low scoring in the playthroughs. I seldom use the match-the-colours-when-paying-to-get-a-bonus. Just get the scoring cards out is often a better option. Not always, but often.

The other two came out on BGA during their summer calender-thingy (august). So expecting this one to go live this month. I believe I have heard someone had played it online for testing.

Official release is to be Essen. The UK and US got some copies early. I am so jealous! 😊

Very much enjoyed the playthrough, an interesting case in how there isn't one "good score" for the game and instead the score is based on how you and your opponents are playing the game. How many copies of the bear are there in the deck as that seemed decisive in a low scoring game.

Thanks for the playthrough. A pretty game like the other two but do we need another more or less identical one?

@orhalimi 6 days ago

I think you can play caddisfly on a tree that have river

@elainetyger 1 month ago

Your scores will he higher if you focus on building your own combos instead of taking cards away from others. Once one person starts playing defensively, then everyone has to. I don't like playing a chill game like this in that way. The people who play that way are not wrong but sometimes I wish they would just play their area control games and leave the puzzlers to this one.
