Goths 🤝 Lolitas 🤝 Fashion historians
"It's not a costume!"

@amordesdemona 4 years ago

It does annoy me that they keep implying that the makeup is weird even though it looks cute, and that they look like a horror character and that the clothes would be worn for Halloween. It comes off like the kind of people who do see you wearing something like that on the street and go "lol it's not halloween yet"

For a while I was like "yeah its terrible but they had to buy and learn everything online, there's no "lolita store" they could go to" untill I realised they're IN JAPAN! there are literally lolita stores they could of gone to!

"I had to go get the mail looking like this!"... besties if you think that's bad, I've ridden public transport in full drag in the middle of the day

I'm wondering if they thought "gothic lolita" is basically the same thing as "gothic" but just a slightly different name? but they watched safiya's vid and she explained the history and fashion really well.... did they watch her video?

like another commenter said, Q2HAN are really big into fashion and work with brands so I guess I thought they'd do a bit more research. even though lolita isn't exactly popular in Korea, there are Korean lolita brands....... they did look cute tho

Ok, so definitely not lolita fashion. But honestly, even as a regular goth look, getting Halloween costumes to represent a real fashion is really not it. My whole soul hurts knowing they were WALKING DISTANCE FROM HARAJUKU and instead got Walmart costume crap

the drinking from the watergun caught me absolutely off guard I'm crying :""D

I feel the skirt and blous combo looked more visual kei than anything. I can see them walking in slow motion in a The Gazette music video LOL

The only way I can think of of why they failed so bad is that they don’t think Lolita fashion is an actual “fashion” brand you can wear like normal clothes and they just like Lolita is just a “costume” you can wear like a “vampire” or whatever but….like if they watched Safiya vid at all and are in Japan then obviously that’s not true 😵‍💫

I have watched Q2HAN for a while and I wonder if this isn't a symptom of the very "consumable" fashion trend cycles in k-fashion... like "gangster" or "punk" or "french" or "hip-hop" etc. etc. These trends usually don't reflect the actual source material and uniformly suffer from this telephone game syndrome. These styles are usually just that- a style- and it really shows

If you cannot afford authentic lolita fashion pieces, you can always rework/mod the cheap ones. The old school lolita (at least at my time back in the late 90s) was all about self made/modified items. Even if you cannot sew full on patterns, you'd get a base piece and change it up and layered it. That is what I did at least back in the day to get the casual "budget" gothic lolita look.

The makeup definitely looks normal (could be because I dress gothic harajuku fashion and other alt subcultures) . It’s makeup that’s sort of common for the alt youth in some parts of America as well . They seem to be wearing romantic goth fashion and confused that with the gothic Lolita they watched from Safiya .

Why is it that whenever anyone does a “lolita” transformation, they always focus on the makeup?!

Also I appreciated the StyleSavvy reference. 🤣

I'm a gyaru but I watch your videos because I just enjoy Lolita fashion; and I have definitely had to walk around outside in our apartment's parking lot trying to find an Amazon delivery person in full kogal, makeup and saggy socks and everything. The delivery lady loved it.

@datcowe3871 4 years ago

felt really sad they kept calling it a costume, the final outfits reminded me of Romantic Goth attire.

Not the video getting privated 💀

Adding another comment to say that the point you made @ 19:40 is extremely true, and I've come to really appreciate the fashion's name for that reason. There will always be people who try to take advantage of our subculture in various ways, but the fact many modern social medias actively suppress certain words, like the name Lolita, keeps us relatively safe from being exploited by crash grabbers and clout chasers. Maybe I'm just a hipster but I feel like the fact lolita fashion is a small niche that's kept alive mostly by people who genuinely love it, is a good thing.

This is so weird, I watch Q2HAN often and I’ve never seen this video? I feel like they were definitely sent the clothes by the brand after watching Saf’s video and didn’t do research because this doesn’t seem like something they’d do? They’re very into fashion so it’s crazy to me that they wouldn’t know that there are better options right around the corner (almost literally as you pointed out). Maybe you could reach out to them and help them do appropriate sweet lolita cords…? 😉
Also you better have made that red velvet reference knowing that they copied that look in another video because if not that is crazy coincidence!!

@Slithera 4 years ago

"What in the fresh Hot Topic hell is that??" absolutely GOT me LOL
Yeah the original video is... not a good example of lolita fashion whatsoever, but at least it makes for good content to react to 😅 Welcome back, Lor!
