This time, I explored the salt ponds in Punjulharjo Village, Rembang District, Rembang Regency, Central Java, to see firsthand the traditional salt-making process.

It turns out that making salt is not easy. It takes about three months, from soil compaction, pond cultivation, and seawater drying, until the salt crystals are finally formed and ready to be harvested. Salt farmers must work patiently and meticulously to produce quality salt.

At this location, I also learned that there are two main methods of making salt:

The traditional method uses compacted soil. This method is more cost-effective, but the resulting salt tends to be pale white.

The modern method uses tarpaulins. This method requires a significant expense, but the resulting salt is usually brighter and cleaner.

In this video, I invite you to take a closer look at the lives of salt farmers, their daily work processes, and the beauty of the expansive salt ponds along the Rembang coast.

We hope this video provides insight into the salt-making process and serves as a token of appreciation for the salt farmers who work hard to meet our daily needs.
