The song is about losing your passion for your art.  In their case, music and dancing, etc.  It's based off a movie of the same name about a ballerina and that the "first death" (losing your ability to perform, your passion) can be worse that the final death.  They filmed this in a theater in Los Angeles.  I think it is called the Los Angeles Theater actually (anyone correct me if I'm wrong).  I fell in love with BTS starting with this song - loved the dance, the meaning, the music, all of it.  I, of course, fell way down the rabbit hole and became ARMY a few months later (2021).  BTS is MY passion now!  They get me through each day; something to look forward to each morning actually.

Their music and artistry transcend all sorts of barriers.  Proof. I’m hear listening to you.

Honestly,  I think BTS have some weird powers because the more you hear a track, the more you love it and just want to hear it over and over.
I have listened to songs and thought, that is OK, but not my fav. Then after hearing a couple more times, I wonder why I ever thought that as I now can't live without it. Hence their whole discography is on rotation daily. BTS are magic. Guaranteed!💜

It's fun to see you re-react to this MV. I wish I had a video of myself seeing them for the first time! I'd love to know when I figured out they were so special because of their talent but also, as you point out, because of their message. This video is still my favorite after 5 years in the fandom. They are imagining what would happen if they lost their passion for music. Luckily for ARMY it hasn't happened!

I love how ARMY comes from so many different life experiences and perspectives and how we all find BTS in our own way. I used to be in theater and dance, so I was first amazed by their "storytelling through movement." The productions spoke to me. Then, the members themselves won me over with their sweetness and passion for their craft. Finally, I discovered music. I'd liked music before, but it was a background to my life. Now, it became a forefront. The lyrics! I'm learning music terms I never knew. I'm branching out to learn about more music from all over the world. I truly believe that as we have become a global society, we needed BTS to bring us to a better place. I know they are not perfect. But, they are perfect for me.

Martha Graham said that the first death of a dancer is when they can no longer dance. And the shadow of their previous dancing hangs over them for the rest of their lives.
In the Swan Fables there are many ways to express the duality of the swans, but they are always one swan. In Freudian psychology you can think of the white swan as the super ego and the black swan as the id, but they are one of three parts of the same person. If the dancer (super ego) can no longer dance, then the id comes toward to haunt and even taunt the former talented artist.
In the very beginning scene the white suits are tinged with grey. The talent, the desire to produce art is slipping away. And the shadow is a constant in the video you may not have noticed but you feel it. Also, when Jin is in the room of mirrors, when he turns away his face stays frozen in that moment. At the end of the video the dancer walks away from the stage and the shadow slowly slips away. But, soon to be felt again.

So glad you are touched enough to go back and revisit Black Swan, your first reaction. The magic is knowing that they always have a message. Their mission statement is making music for healing.

The Black Swan signifies the impending of doom, unpredictability, unknown occurances of great consequense. The White Swan is the opposite, it is events that are predictable  partially or fully,  mostly about outcomes that are predestined and positive. In psychology, the Blackswan symbolizes individualism, uniqueness, personal power and transformation, an embracing of the hidden aspects of one's personality,  the shadow. The White Swan symbolizes peace, divine grace, light and fidelity. There is a symbolic White Swan, in BTS'S latest MV, for the song NORMAl from the Arirang Album, in the scene, just before Jimin's part.

Black Swan is a song,  from the Map of the Soul 7, Album,  so it is a study on the Shadow, the contrasts from the black and white in the MV, with the spotlight casting and creating their shadows on the floorboards is highlighted, throughout the setting under or behind the choreography. Just a little easter egg, for you to check out  At Yoongi's part, Jimin was performing the shadow dance behind him. At RM'S part, JHope was performing the shadow dance above him, on the top of the ceiling. At the ending the Shadow drops behind JK.   Jimin is a highly skilled and trained dancer in Contemporary, modern ballet, Traditional Korean Cultaral dance and Hip Hop. When he dances, it is breathtaking ART. He tells a story and emotes the song through his dance. This man is ART himself and dances even through the tips of his fingers and hair. His dance lines and body positioning are always perfection.

That bass, boom boom boom imho, simulates the heartbeat. The song is about an artist afraid of the loss of passion for his craft. A burnout where, your heart no longer beats wildly with excitement for it or some mishap or misfortune that robs your artistic ability. This is the first death for an artist. It is even more painful than the second,  which, is actual death, as inspired by the quote from the famous American dancer and choreographer, Martha Graham.

I like to dance but do not understand choreography professionally but what is amazing with their choreography, the moves imitates life”s movements artistically, fluidly, flawlessly. With Black Swan, they incorporate Swans’ movement while on water.sames is true with their other songs : Butterfly, Run BTS, Hooligan too. I watched one of their Arirang Tour Sketch - when the lyrics says … “watch this, watch this ,,,” part if their choreography is them  as the camera or camera man,.  And these mske BTS in another level.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I don't know about other ARMY but I understood you because I was just like you😅.  I loved that I found out and hoping the same onto others because I count it as a blessing and my world is better because of knowing them.  Their songs helped me heaps when my body is full of pain after surgery on hospital bed(or worse when I have to stand up and move around to help my body recover)

Have you seen the MV of Blood Sweat and Tears? It is another masterpiece. Because of that MV I learnt about Hermann Hesse and Buxtehude.
